The plant is situated in the Vision Industrial Park in Van Wert, a city in Northwest Ohio.

USA – Portuguese packaging manufacturer Intraplás has started production at its new facility in Ohio, the company’s initial manufacturing operation in the United States.
The plant represents a US$43 million commitment to serve North American customers more efficiently with injection-molded plastic components for food, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical sectors.
Company executives described the Ohio site as a key step in growth strategy. “This investment allows us to deliver faster lead times and customized solutions directly from the US,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
The facility focuses on rigid plastic packaging, including caps, jars, and containers, with capacity to produce millions of units annually.
Intraplás operates multiple plants in Portugal and employs advanced molding technology for high-precision parts.
The US expansion targets demand for reliable supply chains amid global disruptions.
Officials noted that proximity to major clients in the Midwest and East Coast reduces shipping costs and carbon emissions from transatlantic transport.
The Ohio plant incorporates energy-efficient equipment and waste reduction systems during production. Intraplás has committed to increasing recycled content in its products over the coming years.
In related developments, major brands continue pushing for recyclable materials.
A recent report showed Unilever Nigeria reached plastic neutrality in November 2024 through collection and recycling programs that processed more waste than the company generated.
Tesco removed over 2.5 billion pieces of plastic since 2019 and switched its Finest dried pasta to paper packaging, eliminating 10 million plastic items each year.
Other advancements include Elopak’s launch of the Pure-Fill platform for flexible carton options and TUBIS opening Germany’s first commercial pyrolysis plant to convert hard-to-recycle plastics into raw materials.
These efforts highlight ongoing industry investments in circular solutions for packaging waste.
