Fedrigoni appoints Rolf Stangl as Executive Chairman

The leadership change lands as packaging producers navigate shifting luxury/premium beverage demand, with paper formats displacing plastic and composites under regulatory and consumer pressure.

ITALY – Fedrigoni has appointed Rolf Stangl as executive chairman effective 6 October 2026, succeeding Marco Nespolo, who is leaving his positions as chief executive and chairman to pursue other opportunities.

Nespolo will retain his investment in the group and remain on the board. In that capacity, he will continue to work with the shareholders and management team.

He became chief executive nearly eight years ago.

During his tenure, Fedrigoni expanded its international presence through a combination of internal growth and acquisitions, according to the company.

Stangl Brings Two Decades of Packaging Leadership

Stangl will work with the group’s chief financial officer and the chief executives of its operating companies on the company’s growth programme.

He has held senior roles in the packaging industry for more than 20 years, including executive and board positions at private equity-backed and listed companies.

He was chief executive of Swiss-listed packaging group SIG from 2008 to 2020, during which time the company went through several changes in ownership and completed its initial public offering.

He later became a senior adviser to Apollo Global Management. His current board positions include non-executive chairman of Nasdaq-listed Reynolds Consumer Products and non-executive director of The Family Office Co.

Speciality Papers Serve Luxury Packaging and Wine Labels

Established in Verona in 1888, Fedrigoni makes speciality papers for luxury packaging and premium wine labels. The group has nearly 6,000 employees, 73 facilities and a presence in 28 countries, with products sold and distributed in 132 countries.

The leadership transition comes as packaging materials producers face shifting demand patterns across luxury and premium beverage segments, where paper-based formats increasingly substitute for plastic and composite alternatives in response to regulatory and consumer pressure.

Leadership Change Positions Group for Next Growth Phase

The appointment of an executive chairman with listed-company and private equity experience signals continued emphasis on growth and operational discipline at Fedrigoni.

Stangl’s background spans ownership transitions and public market exposure, capabilities relevant as speciality paper producers navigate consolidation, sustainability requirements and evolving customer expectations in luxury packaging.

For brands sourcing premium labels and packaging papers, continuity on the board through Nespolo’s retained seat may provide stability during the transition, while Stangl’s mandate focuses on executing the group’s existing growth programme alongside operating company leadership.
