According to the supplier, the film matches traditional substrates in processing characteristics and protection, while carrying How2Recycle prequalification for store drop-off collection.

NORTH AMERICA – Pregis Performance Flexibles has expanded its barrier packaging range with a metallised polyethylene film, targeting applications previously reliant on metallised oriented polypropylene or polyethylene terephthalate.
According to the supplier, the film provides equivalent processing characteristics and protection to traditional substrates while holding How2Recycle prequalification for store drop-off collection.
The prequalification matters for brand owners navigating state-level extended producer responsibility rules, since recyclability claims increasingly determine fee bands and market access across US jurisdictions.
Nylon-Free U-Series Film Retains Strength and Barrier Performance
Additionally, the firm’s U-Series film eliminates nylon, a component that typically obstructs recycling in conventional barrier structures, while retaining required strength and barrier attributes.
Both products sit within the company’s Renew line, a flexible packaging range structured around four areas: recyclability, renewable sourcing, recycled content and reduced material usage.
The elimination of nylon addresses a persistent barrier in flexible packaging recycling, where multi-material laminates bond incompatible polymers that recyclers cannot separate economically.
Bio-Based Resin Development Targets Renewable Inputs
To address demand for renewable packaging inputs, Pregis is collaborating with sector partners to develop bio-based resin options.
At its blown-film manufacturing facility in Anderson, South Carolina, the business recorded a 99 percent landfill waste diversion rate across 2024 and 2025.
The diversion figure reflects operational practices within manufacturing, complementing the recyclability attributes of the films themselves.
Leadership Frames Recyclability as No Longer a Tradeoff
Bob Gargione, president of Pregis Performance Flexibles, said every one of these structures started with a customer telling the company what they could not give up, whether that was shelf life, line speed or a particular package format.
He added that the company’s job was to deliver a recycle-ready answer that performed the same way on customers’ equipment.
He noted that five years in, the portfolio was broad enough that recyclability was no longer the tradeoff it used to be, adding that this mattered more every time another state enacted EPR regulation.
The expansion positions Pregis to serve brands facing tightening requirements for recyclable flexible formats, particularly in food and consumer goods categories where barrier performance remains essential.
