Saica Pack invests US$12.6M in new Hartlepool warehouse

UK – Saica Pack, the corrugated packaging division of Saica Group, has launched a £10 million (US$12.6m) investment in a new warehouse facility in Hartlepool, UK.

The construction, already underway, is set to continue throughout the year, reinforcing the company’s commitment to innovation, efficiency, and sustainability.

Upon completion, the warehouse will significantly enhance Saica’s delivery capabilities, supporting its goal of providing cutting-edge, eco-friendly packaging solutions.

The facility is designed to accommodate up to 9,000 pallets, more than double the average regional warehouse capacity of 4,250 pallets.

This expansion will bolster Saica Pack’s production and storage capacity for sheet and converted corrugated products, aligning with its broader growth strategy.

Beyond increasing storage, the facility will feature dedicated spaces for logistics operations and a rest zone for drivers, optimizing workflow and operational efficiency.

Sustainability is at the heart of the project. Solar panels are installed to generate up to 10% of the plant’s total energy requirements, contributing to a lower carbon footprint.

Riccardo Tonelli, Saica Pack’s Regional Director for Northeast England, emphasized the investment’s significance, “This investment in Hartlepool is a key milestone in Saica’s long-term commitment to the region. It reflects our dedication to delivering exceptional service, enhancing operational efficiency, and creating sustainable solutions for our customers.

“By integrating renewable energy and supporting local employment, we’re not just expanding our business – we’re strengthening our foundation for decades of growth and progress.”

Saica Fresh: Innovating sustainable packaging for fresh produce

In a parallel move to advance its sustainable packaging portfolio, Saica Group launched Saica Fresh in September 2023—an end-to-end packaging solution tailored for the fresh produce market.

The new offering will be showcased at Fruit Attraction 2024, the world’s premier trade fair for the fruit and vegetable industry, which will take place in Madrid, Spain, from October 8 to 10, 2024.

Saica Fresh is built upon five key pillars: food science, comprehensive packaging solutions, product innovation, research & development (R&D), and sustainability.

By leveraging the expertise of Saica Pack and Saica Flex, the initiative provides a holistic approach to packaging that protects fresh produce, reduces food waste, and supports a circular economy.

From packaging design to final product placement, Saica’s R&D teams work to ensure customers use optimal, sustainable materials, enhance packaging efficiency, reduce costs, and extend the shelf life of fresh produce.

The company’s unwavering focus on sustainability is evident in its eco-friendly materials and waste reduction strategies, reinforcing its leadership in green packaging solutions.
