WeighPack Systems launches VersaPak with paper film in sustainable packaging breakthrough

The VersaPak now offers manufacturers a nimble, cost-effective route to transition into paper-based packaging without compromising performance.

CANADA – WeighPack Systems, a prominent provider of automated primary packaging solutions, has announced the latest deployment of its ultra-compact VersaPak vertical form fill and seal (VFFS) bagging machine—now optimized to run recyclable and compostable paper film.

This development marks a significant advancement in sustainable flexible packaging, particularly for small-batch and environmentally conscious producers.

As global demand intensifies for eco-friendly alternatives to plastic, paper film has quickly gained momentum for its natural aesthetic, recyclability, and compostability.

The VersaPak—billed as the world’s smallest tabletop VFFS machine—now offers manufacturers a nimble, cost-effective route to transition into paper-based packaging without compromising performance.

Despite its compact size, comparable to a desktop printer, the VersaPak is built for versatility and can package a wide range of products, including snack foods, baked goods, produce, hardware, and more.

It uses non-proprietary flat roll stock film to create pouches with top and bottom seals and a vertical back seal, ensuring clean, reliable packaging every time.

Ideal for labs, start-ups, institutional packers, and artisanal producers, the machine supports bag widths from 2 to 8 inches and lengths from 2 to 12 inches.

It also integrates easily with printers to apply real-time data such as lot numbers, expiry dates, or QR codes, enhancing traceability and consumer engagement.

“We’re excited to offer a sustainable solution that doesn’t require a large investment or massive footprint,” said a spokesperson from WeighPack.

“By enabling the use of paper film on the VersaPak, we’re helping smaller producers access the same eco-forward options as major brands.”

Key features of the VersaPak make it a standout solution for businesses seeking compact and sustainable packaging technology.

First, the machine is compatible with paper-based, recyclable, and compostable films, allowing manufacturers to align with growing environmental standards and consumer demand for eco-conscious packaging.

This compatibility provides flexibility in film selection while supporting sustainability goals.

The built-in touchscreen interface offers intuitive and user-friendly operation. Whether used by experienced staff or new operators, the interface simplifies setup and adjustments, minimizing training time and reducing operational errors.

With its compact footprint, the VersaPak is designed for tabletop use, making it ideal for small production spaces, labs, or startups. Its size—comparable to a desktop printer—means it fits neatly into environments where space is at a premium, without sacrificing performance.

Maintenance is also straightforward. The machine features low-maintenance components and is easy to clean, helping reduce downtime and supporting hygienic operation in food and non-food environments alike.

Finally, the VersaPak offers flexibility for both manual and automatic loading, making it suitable for a wide range of packaging needs.

Whether in a low-volume, hands-on production setup or a semi-automated line, the VersaPak adapts easily to different workflows.

As paper-based flexible packaging continues to grow in popularity, VersaPak positions itself as a future-ready solution for businesses eager to reduce environmental impact while maintaining packaging quality and efficiency.
