Winpak gains approval as DuPont Tyvek healthcare packaging converter

Tyvek is a completely synthetic substance composed of spunbound PE fibres

CANADA – Winpak Ltd., a global leader in healthcare packaging, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming an authorized converter of DuPont Tyvek for healthcare packaging.

The development, announced recently, marks a pivotal step in advancing sustainable packaging solutions for the pharmaceutical and medical device industries.

The initiative is being spearheaded at Winpak’s division site in Winnipeg, Canada, strengthening its position as a hub for innovative packaging.

According to a company statement, Winpak’s partnership with DuPont Tyvek integrates the durable, breathable, and sterile properties of Tyvek, a synthetic material made from spunbound polyethylene fibers, with Wiicare’s advanced MedForm DT forming films.

This combination delivers high-performance packaging that ensures the sterility of medical devices and pharmaceuticals throughout their lifecycle, meeting stringent industry standards.

The collaboration emphasizes patient safety and environmental stewardship, aligning with the growing demand for eco-conscious solutions in healthcare.

“This innovative approach represents a significant step forward in sustainable packaging solutions,” said Mustafa Bilgen, Vice President of Technology & Innovations at Winpak.

“The synergy of Wiicare’s MedForm DT films and DuPont Tyvek offers customers a reliable, environmentally friendly choice that supports the healthcare industry’s sustainability goals.”

Under the Wiicare brand, a joint venture with its sister company Wipak, Winpak is expanding its global reach to serve medical and pharmaceutical clients across North America, Europe, and Asia.

The partnership leverages Tyvek’s recyclability, as it is made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), enabling integration into circular economy initiatives.

In a related development, a report by a leading industry source highlighted that DuPont recently launched Tyvek with Renewable Attribution (RA), an extension of its healthcare packaging portfolio that reduces carbon footprint through bio-circular feedstocks.

This innovation, certified by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC PLUS), complements Winpak’s efforts to deliver sustainable packaging.

The RA extension maintains Tyvek’s trusted performance while supporting the industry’s push toward net-zero emissions, further enhancing the environmental benefits of Winpak’s offerings.

By combining cutting-edge materials with a global network of production and innovation centers, Winpak is poised to meet the evolving needs of the healthcare sector.
