FLEXO EDGE 2026: Nigerian packaging leaders call for policy reforms, tech investment to unlock global competitiveness

NIGERIA – Nigerian packaging stakeholders have called for stronger collaboration, supportive government policies, and increased technology investment at FLEXO EDGE 2026 in Lagos, as industry leaders urged manufacturers to embrace digital printing and sustainable practices to unlock the sector’s growth potential.

The conference, organised by RandomSoft Limited in partnership with Germany-based VIP Systems GmbH, brought together manufacturers, technology providers, policymakers and industry experts from Nigeria, Europe and Asia to discuss the future of packaging, sustainability and manufacturing. 

Participants explored developments in flexographic and digital printing, automation, sustainable packaging materials and circular economy solutions. 

Technology and Collaboration Key to Nigeria’s Packaging Future

RandomSoft Technical Director Olakunle Ogunjobi described packaging as a critical component of economic development, noting that Nigeria’s growing population presents significant opportunities for industrial expansion. 

He stated that advances in flexographic printing technology now enable manufacturers to produce shorter print runs without compromising quality, making the technology more cost-effective and accessible. 

Ogunjobi stressed the importance of sustainable production practices, urging industry operators to adopt waste recovery, recycling and environmentally responsible manufacturing processes. 

This year’s conference attracted participants from Germany, Belgium, Spain, India and China, reflecting growing international confidence in Nigeria’s manufacturing sector.

Digital Printing and Government Support Essential for Growth

VIP Systems CEO Günter Franz stated that Nigeria remains one of Africa’s most promising packaging markets, driven by its expanding population, growing food industry and rising consumer demand. 

He noted that digital printing technologies will play a central role in the industry’s future by enabling manufacturers to deliver high-quality packaging in shorter production runs. 

FAE Group Chairman Princess Funlayo Bakare-Okeowo urged the government to create a more conducive operating environment through stable policies, increased access to long-term financing and greater support for local paper production. 

She noted that Nigeria has abundant raw materials capable of supporting a thriving domestic paper industry. Special Adviser to the Governor on Climate Change and Circular Economy, Titilayo Oshodi, said innovation in packaging must strike a balance between economic growth and environmental sustainability. 

Organisers stated that FLEXO EDGE will continue to serve as an annual platform for knowledge sharing, innovation and strategic partnerships aimed at enhancing the long-term growth and global competitiveness of Nigeria’s printing and packaging industry.
