The Iraqi converter strengthens its competitive edge with advanced flexographic technology aimed at improving efficiency, print quality and operational flexibility.

IRAQ – Iraqi converter Al Sabagh Company for Digital Printing and General Trading has installed a ZJR-450G 8-colour flexographic printing press from Weigang Technology, marking a strategic investment to scale up its label production capabilities and meet rising regional demand.
The newly commissioned press is expected to enhance both productivity and print precision at the company’s facility, enabling Al Sabagh to serve a broader range of label applications across fast-moving consumer goods, pharmaceuticals and industrial packaging segments.
Designed for stable, high-speed performance, the ZJR-450G series integrates a Siemens control system alongside advanced tension control and web-guiding technology.
These features ensure consistent registration and reduced material waste, which are critical factors for converters operating in increasingly cost-sensitive markets.
The press is equipped with a comprehensive suite of inline technologies, including a BST stroboscopic inspection system, corona treatment, and a double-sided dust cleaning system.
Additional enhancements such as an Italian UV curing system, cold foil capability with differential shaft, and an integrated lamination unit provide the flexibility required to produce high-quality, value-added labels.
According to industry observers, such configurations enable converters to process a wide range of substrates, from paper to film, while supporting premium finishing effects that are increasingly in demand from brand owners seeking shelf differentiation.
The installation reflects a broader trend across the Middle East and Africa, where label converters are investing in modern flexographic platforms to improve turnaround times, reduce downtime and enhance print consistency.
With consumer markets expanding and regulatory requirements tightening, particularly in sectors such as food and pharmaceuticals, precision and traceability in label production have become essential.
Across the region, similar investments are shaping the competitive landscape. In North Africa, several converters have upgraded to hybrid flexo-digital presses to support short-run, customized label production.
Meanwhile, in West Africa, new recycled packaging initiatives, such as rPET production partnerships, are driving demand for high-performance labelling solutions compatible with sustainable materials.
Globally, press manufacturers continue to focus on automation, waste reduction and digital integration.
Smart inspection systems, remote diagnostics and energy-efficient curing technologies are increasingly being incorporated into new installations, enabling converters to optimise operations while meeting sustainability targets.
For Al Sabagh, the addition of the Weigang ZJR-450G press positions the company to capitalise on these evolving market dynamics, strengthening its ability to deliver high-quality, versatile label solutions in a competitive and fast-growing regional market.
