USA – Avient Corporation, a leader in materials solutions innovation, has launched the first grade in its new ColorMatrix Amosorb Oxyloop portfolio of oxygen scavengers: ColorMatrix Amosorb Oxyloop-1.
ColorMatrix Amosorb Oxyloop-1, an advanced oxygen-absorbing additive, is a game-changer in the industry. It is specifically designed to enhance the recyclability of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) packaging, providing a reliable method for brands to prolong shelf life, meet sustainability targets, and support the transition to a circular economy.
Avient’s Oxyloop-1 grade has received recognition from the European Platform for Bottle Packaging (EPBP) for its compatibility with bottle-to-bottle recycling in the coloured PET stream.
This endorsement highlights the product’s alignment with higher standards for recyclability.
ColorMatrix Amosorb Oxyloop-1’s non-nylon composition is a key feature that ensures its compatibility with recycled PET (rPET). This positions it as an innovative solution for brands aiming to boost the use of recycled content in their packaging strategies.
A key advantage of ColorMatrix Amosorb Oxyloop-1 is its ability to provide high-efficiency oxygen scavenging, even in packaging made with fully recycled PET (rPET).
This ensures that products such as juices, ready-to-drink (RTD) teas, vitamin beverages, and select dairy items retain their freshness and shelf stability throughout their lifecycle.
Delivering exceptional clarity, this additive is suitable for both monolayer and multi-layer bottle designs, making it ideal for transparent packaging solutions that prioritize recyclability.
Additionally, Its nylon-free formulation also helps reduce yellowing in recycled transparent streams, maintaining the visual quality and appeal of clear bottle applications.
“We are thrilled to introduce the ColorMatrix Amosorb Oxyloop-1 grade to the market,” remarked Dr. Antonello Decortes, Global Product Platform Manager at Avient Corporation.
“This new Oxyloop technology represents a significant step forward in our commitment to sustainability and circularity. By enhancing the recyclability of PET packaging, we are helping brand owners and converters achieve their sustainability goals and reduce their environmental impact.”
ColorMatrix Amosorb Oxyloop-1 not only enhances recyclability but also complies with direct food contact regulations across key global markets, providing manufacturers and consumers with the utmost assurance of safety and quality in packaging.
In 2023, Ludwigshafen-based chemical company BASF forged a partnership deal with Avient to introduce colored grades of Ultrason® high-performance polymers to the global market.
