Martinez will help bring several recent production inkjet products to market, including the varioPRESS iV7 B2+ digital press, the varioPRINT iX1700, the Colorado XL series, and the LabelStream LS2000 presses

USA – Canon USA has hired Rolando Martinez as senior marketing director for production print, tasking the 25-year industry veteran with driving coordination across inkjet, toner, large-format, and label press lines as the company expands its commercial and industrial footprint across the Americas.
Martinez arrives with senior global and regional roles at HP, Kornit Digital, and Eastman Kodak under his belt.
His brief spans production inkjet and toner, large-format printing, and label and packaging equipment, territories where Canon has been aggressively launching new iron.
Pete Kowalczuk, Canon USA executive vice-president, said Martinez’s proven industry record will be an asset as the company continues to expand its production print presence throughout the Americas.
A Career Built Across Printing’s Front Lines
Martinez’s resume reads like a tour of the production print landscape: HP (commercial inkjet and toner), Kornit Digital (industrial direct-to-garment), and Kodak (legacy commercial printing solutions).
His resume gives him perspectives that a marketing leader who has only worked at a single manufacturer would lack.
He has logged more than 25 years in B2B sales, marketing, and product strategy across commercial print, labels, and packaging, sectors where Canon has been investing heavily in new iron.
The Arsenal He Will Market
Martinez will help bring several recent production inkjet products to market, including the varioPRESS iV7 B2+ digital press, the varioPRINT iX1700, the Colorado XL series, and the LabelStream LS2000 presses.
The iV7 targets commercial printers replacing offset short runs; the Colorado XL series handles signage and displays; the LS2000 goes after the narrow-web label market.
Each faces entrenched competitors, and Martinez’s task is to position Canon’s offerings as viable alternatives.
Timing and Context
The appointment follows last month’s launch of Canon’s LX-D400, a 4-inch full-colour label printer that hits 13 inches per second on dye-based inks.
That machine targets on-demand label production, a segment where customers need short runs, fast turnaround, and variable data. Martinez’s experience at Kornit, where on-demand production is the business model, translates directly.
His cross-Americas operational background (US, Canada, Latin America) aligns with Canon’s regional structure and its ambitions to grow outside the United States.
When a Marketing Hire Signals Strategic Intent
A senior marketing director appointment rarely makes industry headlines.
Canon’s choice of Martinez, a production print veteran, not a consumer marketing generalist, sends a message: the company sees production print as a growth battleground requiring specialised leadership.
For Canon’s rivals, that signal is not ceremonial; it is a competitive challenge.
