SOUTH AFRICA – Conceptainer, a specialist in design and local manufacture of labeling, packaging, transport and storage solutions has developed solutions to protect product integrity and for efficient handling, stacking and storage.

Conceptainer’s extensive range of products includes Tellap pallet-free bulk bags, collapsible thrift bins, stillage boxes, label holders, Polypropylene repair bag tape and anti-static Polypropylene corrugated board.

Tellap’s pallet-free bulk bags are a dependable alternative to a normal bulk bag and pallet and are ideally suited to specific requirements in the safe handling of all food commodities, including nuts, explains Conceptainer director Ken Mouritzen.

“These flexible systems are suitable for customers in diverse industries, who either need to ship produce great distances or deliver locally,” he added.

“In the food sector – including the nut industry – it is critical that foodstuff remains fresh and is easy to identify and locate down the supply chain. All goods must be correctly stored and securely packaged for safe transporting.”

Further, the patented system has two plastic sleeves integrated into the base of the bulk bag allowing forklifts to easily raise the Tellap from the base, omitting the need for a wooden pallet, fumigation, and the need for more than a single operator to do the job.

“There are many issues associated with wooden pallets – including weight, packaging damage and contamination from splinters, nails and mould,” explains Mouritzen.

“A regular wooden pallet can weigh up to 23 kg while a Tellap system weighs less than 2.3 kg, meaning users are only transporting [more] product.”

With the Tellap system, users have the assurance of efficient, secure and hygienic packaging, storage and transportation, and most importantly, nuts stay fresh and are safely handled, adds Mouritzen.

In addition, the efficient packaging system uses the space between the sleeves to increase bag volume by about 10%, meaning users can transport more product at no additional cost, while reducing the number of bags, trucks and containers by about 10%, making substantial cost savings for businesses, he notes.

Moreover, from the time of delivery, users can appreciate greater efficiencies and lower operational costs as the Tellap bags offer “safety, stability and improved [use of] space” in warehousing, containers, rail cars and trucks.

The bags can be stacked securely two-high in a container or four-high in a warehouse and can be loaded and unloaded by one forklift operator.

The environmentally sustainable pallet-free bags are manufactured from 100% polypropylene, are recycled, or re-used with no packaging waste or dumping in landfill.

Conceptainer is also able to customize the Tellap bags to exact requirements, with options including spouts, liners, baffles and printing.

Apart from the “efficient, secure and hygienic packaging, storage and transportation of nuts”, the Tellap pallet-free bulk bag system handles other dry, loose and bulk products including resins, pharmaceuticals and minerals, he concludes.
