Cotecna acquires Energon Labs to expand pharmaceutical, packaging testing

The acquisition enhances Cotecna’s regulatory-compliant testing support for Indian and international customers, delivering improved responsiveness and operational efficiency.

INDIA – Cotecna Group has acquired Energon Labs, a cGMP-compliant and USFDA-inspected analytical testing laboratory based in Hyderabad, expanding its pharmaceutical, medical device and packaging testing capabilities across India, the United States, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.

Strategically located in Hyderabad, one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology hubs, Energon provides Cotecna with access to highly specialised scientific talent, advanced laboratory infrastructure and a well-established pharmaceutical ecosystem.

India is also one of the world’s fastest-growing pharmaceutical markets and a critical manufacturing hub for global healthcare supply chains.

The acquisition enhances Cotecna’s ability to support both Indian and international customers with regulatory-compliant testing services while delivering greater responsiveness and operational efficiency.

Packaging Compatibility Studies Anchor Service Portfolio

Energon offers a comprehensive portfolio of analytical testing and quality assurance services, including analytical method development and validation, stability studies, impurity profiling, extractables and leachables, glass delamination studies, peptides and oligonucleotide characterisation, raw material and finished product testing, in-vitro binding studies, packaging compatibility studies, and regulatory support services.

Packaging compatibility studies are increasingly important as regulators scrutinise interactions between drug formulations and primary containers, particularly for injectables, biologics and products stored in glass or polymer formats where leachables can compromise safety and efficacy.

Network Includes Shiva Analyticals and Neotron Pharma

The addition of Energon further complements Cotecna’s growing pharmaceutical testing network, which includes Cotecna Life Sciences, Shiva Analyticals and Neotron Pharma.

Together, these capabilities strengthen the group’s ability to support customers throughout the product lifecycle and address evolving global quality, compliance and regulatory requirements.

Leadership Cites Ambitions in Indian Market

Sébastien Dannaud, chief executive officer of Cotecna Group, said the company was pleased to welcome Energon Labs, describing the acquisition as another important step supporting its ambition to become one of the largest providers of life sciences testing services in India.

Amit Chopra, chief executive for South Asia and the Middle East, said the deal aligned with a strategy of building a comprehensive pharmaceutical testing ecosystem across key growth markets, noting that Energon’s technical capabilities, experienced team and established customer relationships would enhance service to pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical and medical device companies.

Manikanth Reddy, founder of Energon, said joining Cotecna opened a new chapter and provided opportunities to expand capabilities and strengthen service offerings.

Founded in Switzerland in 1974, Cotecna operates in more than 55 countries.
