The printer delivers up to 600dpi resolution, making it ideal for compact 2D codes and Asian character sets.
UK – Domino Printing Sciences has unveiled the Cx150i Piezo Inkjet (PIJ) printer, a new solution designed to meet the evolving demands of shelf-ready and display packaging, especially on nonporous, coated substrates.
Engineered to deliver high-quality, durable codes on secondary packaging, the Cx150i expands Domino’s Cx-Series portfolio with sustainability, compliance, and flexibility at its core.
Part of Domino’s strategy to support brands moving away from plain brown cardboard to more branded and shelf-appealing packaging, the Cx150i is tailored to handle complex printing challenges.
It delivers up to 600dpi resolution, making it ideal for compact 2D codes and Asian character sets.
Its UV-curable ink set meets both Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and European Printing Ink Association (EuPIA) standards, ensuring safe use for food-related packaging applications.
The printer integrates low-energy LED curing and a waste-reducing ink pouch system, significantly reducing volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and operational waste.
Unlike conventional printers, the Cx150i requires no regular cleaning or ink purging, further enhancing its efficiency and eco-profile.
“As shelf-ready packaging becomes more visually engaging and less reliant on traditional porous materials, code legibility and durability are crucial,” said David Edwards, Domino’s PIJ Product Manager.
“The Cx150i was developed to meet these needs while minimizing energy and ink waste.”
Domino has also ensured that the Cx150i can operate as a standalone unit or be fully integrated into broader automated coding and vision systems.
The printer is Industry 4.0-ready, offering seamless connectivity with third-party software and ERP systems.
Optional cloud-based services allow remote performance monitoring, predictive maintenance, and operational insights.
Expanding its digital print offering
The Cx150i follows the recent debut of Domino’s N610i-H press at Labelexpo India 2024, a next-generation digital press for label converters and commercial printers.
Unveiled at UV Graphic Technologies’ booth, the N610i-H supports inline priming, varnishing, and five-color (CMYK + White) digital printing, enabling high-resolution (600×600 DPI) outputs at speeds of up to 50 meters per minute.
Designed for non-direct food and industrial packaging, the N610i-H uses Domino’s UV92 and UV95 ink sets, offering excellent adhesion, durability, and screen-like white opacity (up to 72%).
The UV95 ink, TPO-free and compliant with EuPIA GMP guidelines, is suitable for food-related packaging under controlled conditions.
Together, the Cx150i and N610i-H reflect Domino’s commitment to innovation, compliance, and sustainability in packaging and digital print.
