UK – DS Smith has announced the upcoming retirement of Miles Roberts as Chief Executive and board member, following an esteemed 13-year tenure at the helm.

His retirement is set to occur no later than November 30, 2025, allowing for a comprehensive succession plan and seamless transition, ensuring continuity within the company.

Expressing his sentiments on this transition, Roberts shared, “My journey with DS Smith has been incredibly rewarding. Collaborating with colleagues, customers, suppliers, and stakeholders has been an absolute pleasure.

“After 13 years, it feels right to make this announcement, allowing for a structured handover. Meanwhile, my focus remains dedicated to furthering our business and bolstering our leadership in the circular economy.”

Geoff Drabble, the company’s Chair, praised Roberts’ exceptional contributions, stating, “While a proper tribute to Miles will be due upon his departure, his transformative leadership over the past 13 years has been invaluable. His absence will be felt deeply by both the Board and the wider business community.”

Hans-Christoph Gallenkamp named president of Die Papierindustrie

In parallel developments within the industry, Hans-Christoph Gallenkamp, currently CEO of Felix Schoeller, assumes the role of President at Die Papierindustrie, succeeding Winfried Schaur following a majority vote by the association members.

Gallenkamp steps into this position at a pivotal juncture for the paper industry, marked by challenges posed by soaring energy costs.

Gallenkamp emphasizes the industry’s need for support amidst Germany’s swift push toward climate transition and reduced reliance on fossil fuels.

Addressing these challenges, he advocates for a bridging electricity price and peak balancing measures, crucial until renewable energies ensure affordable and secure energy sources.

In his new role, Gallenkamp aims to lead the industry’s transformation, focusing on sustainable solutions that curtail environmental impact. Additionally, the association’s member companies are committed to crafting attractive working models to compete for top talent in the market.

The executive committee of Papierindustrie comprises Vice President Dr. Christopher Grünewald, Ulrich Wienbeuker, Maximilian Heindl, and Dr. Benno Hundgeburt, working collectively toward industry advancement.

Felix Schoeller, where Gallenkamp currently serves as CEO, is a specialized paper manufacturer known for its high-quality paper offerings.
