UAE – Union Paper Mills, a paper distributor, has commissioned Valmet to install automation systems for its Paper Machine 2 (PM 2) located in Dubai.
Valmet’s comprehensive solution encompasses the DNA Distributed Control System (DCS), IQ Quality Control System (QCS), and the web-based Valmet DNA User Interface, all integral components of this order.
The responsibility entrusted to Valmet spans design, engineering, production, factory acceptance testing, and implementation of the DNA DCS tailored for PM 2. This robust QCS integrates scanners and pertinent measurement and control applications, promising to elevate machine performance and the quality of end-products.
The Valmet DNA User Interface, a unified system for automation, intelligently utilizes available data to deliver customized automation experiences, tailored to the roles of individual users.
The selection of Valmet’s automation systems comes on the heels of the successful automation deployment on Union’s PM 3 at the Al Dhafra facility in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Chander Prakash Sharma, Union’s automation manager, noted the impressive performance of Valmet’s DNA Distributed Control System and Valmet IQ Quality Control System at the Al Dhafra mill and various other regional references. He also commended Valmet’s local service team in the UAE for their competence and reliable service.
The orders were included in the third quarter of 2023, with delivery and system start-up slated for 2024. Although the precise value of the order remains undisclosed, the collaboration signifies continued trust between the entities.
Christian Kallich, Area Sales Director for Valmet Pulp & Paper and Automation Systems, expressed pride in securing this repeat order, affirming Valmet’s position as the leading automation supplier in the region, reinforced by a robust service team.
Meanwhile, in September, Valmet received an order to supply Indian paper manufacturing company Naini Papers with key pulp and paper technologies.
Under the terms of the agreement, Valmet will supply technologies, automation and services to Naini Papers’ cooking and fiber line rebuild and the new specialty paper machine, PM 3 at its mill in Kashipur, India.
For the cooking and fiber line rebuild, the pulp and paper technology developer will deliver a SuperBatch digester, a bleach plant upgrade, a TwinRoll Press, and other auxiliary equipment.
The company will also offer necessary engineering, complete process engineering and site services. The rebuild is anticipated to increase the capacity from the current 300 bone dry tonnes per day (bdtd) to 370 bdtd.
