Dubai Municipality expands free e-waste recycling with Enviroserve home collection service

UAE – Dubai Municipality has expanded free e-waste recycling services through a strategic agreement with Enviroserve, enabling residents to dispose of end-of-life electronics safely with direct home collection options.

The Memorandum of Cooperation, signed during a visit by Dubai Municipality Director General Eng. Marwan Ahmed Bin Ghalita to Enviroserve’s facility, establishes a framework for collection, recycling and material recovery of waste electrical and electronic equipment across the emirate. 

The agreement supports the Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2041 and complements the Circular Dubai initiative. Enviroserve operates the largest electronic waste recycling facility in the Middle East and Africa, and the sixth largest globally, with the capacity to process up to 30,000 tonnes of waste electrical and electronic equipment annually. 

The new agreement expands on an existing partnership that has already seen over 20,000 pieces of e-waste collected across Dubai since 2022, with the expansion expected to significantly increase collection volumes through enhanced logistics and outreach.

How Free Home Collection and Secure Data Destruction Drive Circular Economy

Dubai residents will have access to free and safe disposal and recycling services for end-of-life electrical and electronic equipment through flexible logistics options, including direct collection from homes via Dubai Municipality’s household furniture and appliance disposal service. 

Residents can schedule a collection through the Dubai Municipality call centre or website, with Enviroserve’s team picking up the items directly from their premises. 

The collaboration will also include public awareness campaigns, community activities, school competitions and workshops to encourage responsible disposal practices among residents and businesses. 

Secure data-wiping procedures will form an integral part of the programme, including the issuance of data-wiping and destruction certificates for electronic devices, reassuring residents and organisations that sensitive information will be securely removed before devices are recycled. 

The programme covers a wide range of electronic waste, including computers, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, televisions, monitors, printers, scanners, cables and small household appliances.

What the Strategic Partnership Means for Dubai’s Waste Management Goals

The agreement represents an important step in making electronic waste disposal more accessible to the community while supporting Dubai’s transition towards a circular and resource-efficient economy. 

Enviroserve will provide the infrastructure, vehicles, containers, equipment and logistics services required for collection activities, and will provide regular reports on the quantities processed under the partnership. 

The collaboration also supports Dubai’s commitment to reducing the environmental impact of electronic waste, which contains hazardous materials including lead, mercury and cadmium that can leach into soil and water if not properly managed.
