Eastman partners Toly to launch Gemini for luxury cosmetics

Cristal One Renew IM812 offers glass-like clarity suitable for thick-wall PET compact cases.

USA – Eastman and Toly have rolled out Gemini, a fresh cosmetic compact made with the company’s Cristal One Renew IM812 resin.

This marks the resin’s debut in makeup compact cases. The material delivers glass-like clarity for thick-wall PET designs, preserving transparency and gloss in premium applications.

According to a joint announcement, the compact supports brands in cutting environmental footprints through molecular recycling.

The resin holds up to 100% certified recycled content and integrates seamlessly into standard PET recycling systems.

Certifications from groups like the European PET Bottle Platform (EPBP), Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR), and RecyClass confirm its recyclability.

Olaf Zahra, Toly’s chief technical and sustainability officer, noted that the partnership with Eastman advances beauty packaging that merges high-end looks with eco-friendly practices.

He added that the solution helps clients achieve tough sustainability targets without losing the premium feel customers demand.

Tara Cary, Eastman’s global cosmetics market manager, stated in a release that the resin equips packages to handle current standards and upcoming regulations.

She explained it brings reliability to each unit by combining performance with reduced waste.

The Gemini cases will appear at Luxe Pack Monaco from September 30 to October 2, giving industry attendees a close look at the design’s clarity and durability.

In a related development, Eastman expanded its recycling efforts last week with Doloop to introduce a 100% recycled PET beverage bottle at Drinktec 2025 in Munich.

The bottle, crafted from EastarRenew EN031 resin, matches virgin material quality while slashing carbon emissions by over 60% compared to traditional PET.

This project highlights Eastman’s push into broader container formats, using similar molecular tech to process hard-to-recycle plastics.

A report by industry analysts shows biodegradable plastics and plant-based alternatives gaining traction in 2025 makeup packaging, with global adoption up 25% year-over-year.

Major brands now prioritize these options to comply with EU directives mandating 30% recycled content in plastics by 2030, driving costs down to about US$0.15 per unit for certified materials.

Japanese label SUQQU recently adopted Eastman’s Cristal One for a new compact line, reporting 40% less virgin plastic use.

These moves signal a shift where suppliers like Toly and Eastman deliver scalable, certified solutions at competitive prices, around US$1.20 per compact in bulk orders.

Gemini’s rollout comes amid rising demand for traceable recycled content, with the sustainable cosmetics packaging market projected to hit US$12 billion by 2027.

Toly plans to scale production in its Malta and South Korea facilities to meet orders starting next quarter.
