Subotnick serves a range of industries including building materials, food, e-commerce and transportation.

USA – Atlanta-based Veritiv Operating Company has completed its acquisition of Subotnick Packaging, an Oregon distributor specializing in packaging products and equipment.
The deal, announced on September 17, 2025, targets growth in the Pacific Northwest market. Financial details were not disclosed.
Subotnick, founded in 1925 as a family-owned operation, operates from Portland and supplies stock and custom solutions in corrugated materials, strapping, tape, stretch film, and related equipment.
The company serves diverse sectors such as building materials, food processing, e-commerce operations, and transportation logistics.
According to Veritiv, Subotnick’s product range fits directly into its distribution model, which spans packaging alongside janitorial, hygiene, print, and publishing services.
Veritiv maintains distribution centers across the US and Mexico, with global support staff enhancing its reach.
David Berlant, president of Subotnick, described the move as a key step forward.
He stated that joining Veritiv would allow the firm to broaden its reach via the larger company’s network in distribution, automation, design, and fulfillment services.
Berlant added that the partnership opens doors to new opportunities, with their merged expertise set to deliver added benefits to clients.
Sal Abbate, Veritiv’s CEO, highlighted the strategic fit in a company release.
He noted that the purchase expands the firm’s packaging operations in the vital Pacific Northwest area, where Subotnick holds established customer ties and operational stability.
McDermott Will & Emery provided legal counsel to Veritiv during the transaction.
This purchase marks Veritiv’s latest expansion effort. Just weeks earlier, it integrated the packaging distribution arm of S. Walter Packaging, a Pennsylvania-based provider established in 1904.
That division, with 110 employees and sites in Trevose and Shoemakersville, focuses on custom solutions for retail, hospitality, food and beverage, and fashion clients.
The back-to-back deals signal Veritiv’s active push into regional markets.
Industry observers point to a broader trend in packaging distribution amid rising demands for efficient, sector-specific supplies.
In related developments, Veritiv’s CEO Abbate has overseen five such acquisitions since taking the helm, building on the company’s ranking as a top player in janitorial, packaging, and disposables distribution.
Subotnick’s addition brings fourth-generation expertise to Veritiv’s portfolio, potentially aiding clients in navigating supply chain needs across the West Coast.
The integration is expected to proceed smoothly, preserving Subotnick’s local presence while tapping Veritiv’s resources.
Customers in affected industries stand to gain from enhanced product availability and service options.
