US – Heidelberg has launched the new-generation Speedmaster SX 102, with artificial intelligence and other automated assistance systems to offer an ergonomic user experience and high-quality commercial printing.
According to Heidelberg, the Speedmaster SX 102 has been enhanced in line with customer requirements and is aimed primarily at commercial print shops that require a high level of productivity and top-quality perfecting printing.
Applications for the Speedmaster SX 102 include very thin materials that need to be produced in a single pass, including brochures and pharmaceutical packaging.
Heidelberg claims that the basic model offers an “excellent” price-performance ratio, with configurations extending through to an autonomous Push to Stop perfecting press.
The new format option (650 x 940 millimeters) reportedly cuts printing plate costs by up to 20% compared with the conventional 102 sheet format (720 x 1,020 millimeters), which the company says is a key economic consideration given the sharp rise in raw material prices.
The company adds that the new Speedmaster SX 102 is designed as a scalable press.
Depending on the range of applications and the output/automation requirements, the basic model, which is already equipped with Heidelberg perfecting technology, can be ordered with other assistance systems transferred from the Speedmaster XL technology, according to the company.
This includes Intellistart 3, Intelliline, Intellirun, Wash Assistant, and Powder Assistant, among others.
In addition, Heidelberg says that with the help of artificial intelligence, digital assistance systems allow for a further reduction in the number of manual interventions by operators.
Thanks to the Prinect Press Center XL 3 and the Prinect workflow, Heidelberg claims that the Speedmaster SX 102 can be fully integrated into a print shop’s overall workflow, which apparently ensures efficient data management, precise presettings, up-to-date production data, and informative reports.
The Preset Plus feeder and delivery have been taken over from XL technology, according to the company.
Heidelberg adds that the Speedmaster SX 102 features an innovative, ergonomic design with a new gallery and guards that also come from the Speedmaster XL series.
According to the company, the Heidelberg User Experience (UX) provides a modern work environment, while the Princet Press Center XL 3 with Speedmaster Operator System reportedly makes life easier for operators with its user-friendly navigation, delivers predictable results, and boosts performance.
Stefan Hasenzahl, Head of Product Management at Heidelberg, concluded: “With the new Speedmaster SX 102, we are once again emphasizing our technology leadership.
“Our customers benefit from a scalable press that can be fully integrated and, if necessary, adapted to their precise requirements using a whole host of established assistance systems from our Speedmaster XL solutions.”
