Packaging inputs account for 16 per cent of total industrial production costs in Jordan.

JORDAN – Jordan’s packaging, paper, and cardboard sector has expanded its global reach, exporting to 58 countries in 2024 and reinforcing its role as a key driver of the Kingdom’s industrial competitiveness, according to data from the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI).
Figures from the Jordan News Agency, Petra, show the sector recorded exports worth JD135 million (US$190.41m) in 2024, with JD58 million (US$81.81m) achieved in the first five months of 2025 alone.
This growth underscores Jordan’s rising profile as a reliable supplier of high-quality packaging and paper products to regional and global markets.
JCI’s data highlights the sector’s strong integration within Jordan’s wider industrial ecosystem. Packaging, paper, and cardboard are both core production inputs for diverse industries and final products for local consumption.
Packaging materials alone account for 14% of total industrial production costs in Jordan, with stationery and printed materials adding a further 2%, excluding raw materials.
This means the sector directly influences the efficiency, quality, and competitiveness of local manufacturing output.
The sector serves a wide range of industries, including food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, plastics, and engineering, positioning it as a “cornerstone” of industrial continuity.
Its contribution extends beyond exports: approximately 88% of current production is sold domestically, covering 77% of total local consumption needs.
This domestic coverage generates more than JD1 billion in annual sales, one of the highest market penetration rates among Jordan’s industrial sectors.
In terms of industrial scale, the packaging, paper, and cardboard sector contributes around 9% of total manufacturing output, valued at JD1.14 billion (US$ 1.61bn) annually.
Its performance reflects both strong production capabilities and the sector’s ability to adapt to evolving market demands, including sustainable packaging trends and the shift toward recyclable materials.
The global reach to 58 export destinations demonstrates the sector’s growing competitiveness, supported by investments in modern machinery, quality control systems, and compliance with international standards.
Key export markets include Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, North Africa, Europe, and parts of Asia, with demand driven by the rapid expansion of e-commerce, food processing, and logistics industries worldwide.
Industry leaders say continued success will depend on innovation and sustainability. As packaging becomes increasingly central to brand value and regulatory compliance, Jordan’s producers are expected to intensify their focus on eco-friendly materials and circular economy models, strengthening both their local and international market share.
