Lecta introduces eco-friendly barrier paper for sustainable packaging

The new barrier presents a viable, sustainable alternative to traditional multilayer packaging, which often combines difficult-to-recycle materials.

SPAIN – Lecta, a leading Spanish manufacturer of specialty papers, has launched Linerset FP, a new eco-friendly barrier paper designed to meet the growing demand for sustainable and recyclable packaging alternatives.

Tailored for converters and printers, Linerset FP is engineered to provide effective barrier properties while maintaining flexibility and durability—making it ideal for applications such as bags, pouches, and wrapping in the food and industrial packaging sectors.

It is specifically developed for use in flexographic printing and is available in a wide range of grammages from 40g/m² to 78g/m², offering manufacturers versatility in packaging design.

The company says Linerset FP presents a viable, sustainable alternative to traditional multilayer packaging, which often combines difficult-to-recycle materials.

By offering a recyclable monomaterial solution, Linerset FP aligns with the packaging industry’s accelerating shift toward circularity and reduced environmental impact.

In line with global sustainability benchmarks, the new product is manufactured in compliance with ISO standards and the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), reinforcing Lecta’s commitment to responsible production.

The barrier paper also complies with regulatory safety requirements for contact with food and other consumer goods, making it dependable for a broad range of packaging applications.

The launch of Linerset FP builds upon Lecta’s strategic investments in sustainable paper innovation.

In February 2024, the company expanded its Termax thermal paper line with the introduction of Termax TC20X and Termax TC20XB, two new grades developed to deliver enhanced image stability and reduced environmental impact in label and ticketing applications.

These product rollouts reflect Lecta’s broader sustainability roadmap, which includes ongoing research and development in functional and barrier-coated papers, renewable raw materials, and the modernization of its production assets to reduce carbon emissions.

“Linerset FP represents a new milestone in our journey to deliver innovative, eco-efficient packaging materials,” said a Lecta spokesperson.

“As market expectations evolve and regulations tighten, we are focused on offering sustainable paper solutions that perform while helping our customers meet their environmental goals.”

Lecta’s continued focus on specialty and barrier papers positions the company as a key player in the transition from plastic-based to paper-based packaging, catering to brands and converters seeking to balance performance with sustainability.
