UAE – The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MOEI) of the United Arab Emirates and Lootah Biofuels, a leading circular economy pioneer producing biofuel from cooking oil in the UAE, today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
This strategic partnership aims to strengthen bilateral relations and foster collaboration in the development, promotion, and utilization of biofuels as a sustainable and alternative energy source for the nation.
The MoU signing took place at the Lootah Biofuels factory in Dubai Industrial City, where H.E. Sharif Salim Al-Olama, the Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs in the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, and Mr. Yousif bin Saeed Lootah, founder and CEO of Lootah Biofuels, sealed the agreement.
The primary focus areas outlined in the MoU include joint research and development initiatives aimed at exploring and expanding the biofuels market in the UAE.
Additionally, the partnership seeks to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and technical expertise through various platforms such as workshops, seminars, and knowledge-sharing sessions among industry stakeholders.
Furthermore, the collaboration will involve the mutual sharing of comprehensive data related to biofuel production and commercial distribution, crucial for informing policy decisions and tracking progress towards national clean energy objectives.
Central to this collaboration is the concerted effort to raise awareness and promote the adoption of biofuels across the UAE, contributing to enhanced energy security and the fulfillment of environmental sustainability goals.
This MoU builds upon a successful meeting held in November 2023, during which a high-level delegation from MOEI, led by H.E. Eng. Saif Ghobash, Assistant Undersecretary for the Oil, Gas, and Mineral Resources Sector, visited Lootah Biofuels to witness the company’s innovative and sustainable biofuel production solutions.
H.E. Sharif Salim Al-Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs in the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, expressed appreciation for Lootah Biofuels’ efforts in promoting biofuel usage and public awareness.
He emphasized the ministry’s excitement about collaborating with Lootah Biofuels to advance sustainable solutions and meet climate commitments.
Mr. Yousif bin Saeed Lootah, Founder and CEO of Lootah Biofuels highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting the UAE’s clean energy strategies and contributing to greener and circular energy resources.
He expressed honor in partnering with MOEI to drive forward the biofuels industry and contribute to the UAE’s Net-Zero 2050 ambition.
In addition to joint research and market development efforts, both parties will actively promote biofuel usage across the UAE. The MoU underscores the UAE’s steadfast commitment to achieving clean energy goals and its Net-Zero 2050 Strategic Initiative.
