The new EdgePak Collar is a lightweight, fiber-based alternative to wooden pallet collars

SWEDEN – Nefab has launched an updated EdgePak Collar, a lightweight, fiber-based alternative to traditional wooden pallet collars, designed specifically for one-way shipments.
Announced on September 10, 2025, this innovative packaging solution targets industries where return logistics are impractical, offering a sustainable and cost-effective option.
The new EdgePak Collar integrates seamlessly with existing logistics processes, featuring quick assembly, adjustable height, and standardized sizes for compatibility.
Available in three sizes, including full-pallet options for EUR (1200x800mm), US (48″x40″), and half-EUR (800x600mm), it caters to diverse global supply chain needs.
The corrugated collar design enhances stiffness, while customizable lids and bottoms allow tailored strength for loads ranging from light to heavy-duty, supporting up to 880 pounds.
Johan Tegell, Nefab’s product area director, stated, “Many companies rely on wooden pallet collars for one-way shipments, leading to excess waste and costs.”
“We collaborated with customers to create EdgePak Collar, a recyclable, lighter solution that cuts emissions and landfill waste without sacrificing functionality.”
A life cycle analysis by Nefab indicates that EdgePak Collar reduces CO2 equivalent emissions by 34%, landfill waste by 49%, and weighs 40% less than wooden alternatives, lowering air freight costs by up to 16%.
Nefab’s initiative supports its goal to cut 10 million tons of CO2 equivalent emissions in customer supply chains by 2030.
Tegell emphasized that the EdgePak Collar helps achieve this by optimizing packaging for specific supply chain demands, reducing both environmental impact and resource consumption.
In early September 2025, a major beverage company announced a partnership to develop fiber-based bottles, further reducing reliance on single-use plastics.
This trend highlights growing industry adoption of fiber materials, driven by consumer demand and stricter regulations like the EU’s Single-Use Plastics Directive.
Such innovations signal a broader shift toward eco-friendly packaging solutions across sectors.
The EdgePak Collar, made from corrugated cardboard and reinforced strawboard corners, offers ergonomic benefits, being 82% lighter than wooden collars, which reduces workplace injury risks.
Its recyclability in paper streams eliminates disposal challenges, making it ideal for industries like automotive and mining.
Nefab’s solution, recognized with a 2025 WorldStar Award, provides a practical step toward greener logistics while maintaining operational efficiency.
