Nefab’s EdgePak straw wins German Packaging Awards 2022

GERMANY – The German Packaging Awards, Europe’s biggest showcase for packaging achievements, has announced Nefab’s fiber-based packaging solution for Lithium-Ion batteries (LiB) as 2022 competition winners in the sustainability category.

The achievement reportedly came in light of Nefab’s transition into a mono-material fiber solution and the resultant reduction of expanded polypropylene (EPP) materials.

Despite being fiber-based, the packaging is said to be capable of holding products of over 350 kilograms per box – Nefab compares its strength to that of plywood – and allows for 1+3 stacking that is said to hold more firmly than a triple wall corrugated box.

According to the company, the solution lowers environmental impact and chain costs. The packaging is designed to be handled easily and does not require nails to hold it together.

As such, it can be assembled and re-opened safely and quietly, and need not be dissembled before it can be recycled.

This award follows the launch of Nefab’s EVI program, which focuses on the development of a standardized Lithium Ion Battery packaging catalog for common sizes of UN-compliant packaging solutions.

Currently, Nefab possesses more than 70 UN certificates that allow us to manufacture more than 600 UN-compliant packaging solutions in our manufacturing plants worldwide.

The company also customizes Lithium Ion Battery packaging solutions, for which we provide pre-testing in our ISTA-certified test labs and take care of certifying UN packaging.

With Nefab’s EVI specialization in Lithium Ion Battery packaging solutions, the company is ready to support its customers to solve challenges in safe Lithium Ion Battery handling and transportation by road, sea and air.

In addition to safety concern during transportation, the fiber-based packaging solution is eco-friendly and help reduce carbon footprint.
