Nobelus launches EcoElement PE thermal sealants to advance digital converter sustainability

USA – Nobelus, a leading provider of premium laminating solutions, has unveiled its new EcoElement PE Thermal Sealants, a polyethylene-based line designed to help thermal converters reduce packaging material thickness while offering sustainable, high-performance sealing solutions in manageable order quantities.

This latest innovation allows converters to access premium sealant technology without the burden of large minimum orders—an advantage especially valuable in the digital flexible packaging space, where shorter runs and faster turnaround times are common.

The EcoElement PE Thermal Sealants are built with a three-layer construction, each made from extruded polyethylene blends.

The structure includes a sealant layer that enables effective pouch-forming and sealing, a structural core that provides strength and durability, and a thermally activated adhesive layer designed to bond seamlessly with print web film.

This multilayer design ensures both functionality and compatibility with existing thermal lamination equipment.

Each layer activates at a different temperature, enabling converters to use their existing thermal laminating equipment without modification.

The line includes both clear and white versions, available with or without EVOH, depending on the need for moisture and oxygen barrier protection.

Importantly, the sealants are compatible with most print web materials but can also be paired with a PE print web to create fully recyclable, mono-material PE packaging.

This aligns with current U.S. recycling systems, where drop-off programs at grocery stores and retail locations accept mono-material PE flexible packaging.

“Historically, thermal converters have struggled to offer sustainable solutions due to limitations in EVA adhesives,” said Roy Langlois, Product Manager at Nobelus.

“Our new PE thermal sealants address this challenge directly—allowing downgauging of structures and enabling fully recyclable packaging without the need for solventless lamination.”

“These products open up a whole new path forward for converters using thermal lamination,” added Angie Mohni, Vice President of Marketing.

“They fit perfectly with the strengths of digital packaging by offering quick access to premium sealants in the low quantities converters need.”

The EcoElement PE Thermal Sealants are part of the Nobelus Foundations Collection, which focuses on essential, high-impact materials that support sustainability goals.

Nobelus also offers consultation services to help converters explore recyclable flexible packaging options tailored to their needs.

Expansion into Europe

Earlier last year, Nobelus expanded its global presence by acquiring the film division of McKinleys Group, a packaging supply company, forming Nobelus Europe.

The new entity, based in Newmarket, UK, will operate independently, giving European print service providers direct access to the full Nobelus product portfolio.

“This exciting development formalizes a long-standing partnership,” said Jeremy Fentiman, Managing Director of Nobelus Europe.

“McKinleys Group has represented Nobelus in the UK and Europe for nearly a decade. With this acquisition, we can establish the Nobelus brand in the region.”

European customers can now expect the same level of service, technical support, and personalized consultation that Nobelus offers in North America. This means more consistent product offerings and finishes across markets for global brands.

“We’re thrilled about the opportunities this expansion presents,” said Steve Truan, Global CEO of Nobelus. “Europe opens a new world for our innovative finishing films, equipment, and sustainable solutions.”

With its mission to “enhance people, partners, and the world’s brands,” Nobelus aims to leverage this growth to tap into new verticals, scale its sustainable packaging innovations, and build strong relationships across the UK and European markets.
