Omron appoints Marc Ioannidis as General Manager for UK & Ireland

Marc Ioannidis succeeds Sam Tilley, who is now general manager Nordic Countries. With more than 25 years of experience

UK – Omron Industrial Automation Europe has named Marc Ioannidis as its new general manager for the UK and Ireland, a move that comes as the company intensifies its focus on automation solutions for the packaging sector.

Ioannidis, who took over effective April 1, 2025, replaces Sam Tilley, now heading operations in the Nordic countries.

With over 25 years in automation, Ioannidis has spent the last 17 at Omron, advancing through senior sales and channel roles, including his recent position as general sales manager for the region”.

In a statement, Ioannidis expressed enthusiasm for the role, saying, “I’m honoured to take on this role and lead such a dedicated team.”

“The UK and Ireland remain dynamic and innovative markets for industrial automation, and I’m looking forward to building on our strong foundations to deliver further success for our customers and partners.”

He highlighted his past contributions to forging partnerships and broadening market presence, which have helped Omron provide tailored solutions to clients.

Vince King, sales director for the North and Emerging Region, praised the selection. According to King, Ioannidis’s track record in leadership and customer dedication positioned him ideally for the job.

King noted that the promotion acknowledges Ioannidis’s ongoing impact within the organization.

Meanwhile, at the PPMA 2025 event, set for later this year, Omron plans to demonstrate sensor technologies that bridge the information technology and operational technology gaps in packaging lines.

In addition, Omron has identified key trends influencing the packaging industry in 2025, including the rise of flexible automation systems that adapt to varying production needs without excess waste.

These systems enable faster changeovers and precise control, supporting eco-friendly practices like recyclable material handling.

Ioannidis is expected to drive these initiatives forward in the UK and Ireland, where demand for sustainable automation is growing amid regulatory pressures on packaging waste.

The region has seen increased adoption of Omron’s tools in food and beverage sectors, where efficient sealing and labeling reduce environmental footprints.

Earlier this year, Omron opened a new Automation Center in Stuttgart, Germany, to foster collaboration on innovative projects, including those for packaging.

This facility has already hosted sessions on sustainable tech, drawing partners from across Europe.
