North America is expected to develop at the fastest rate during the forecast period

GLOBAL – The global plastic waste management market is poised for significant growth, projected to reach US$64.6 billion by 2034, up from US$40.94 billion in 2025, according to Precedence Research report.
This expansion, driven by a 5.2% compound annual growth rate, is as result of the surge in investments in circular economy models, stricter government regulations, and advanced AI-driven waste tracking systems.
The report highlights Asia Pacific’s dominance, holding over 50% of the market share in 2024, while North America is expected to see the fastest growth through 2034.
In a statement, Dr. Emily Chen, a sustainability expert, emphasized, “The shift toward circular economy principles is transforming how we manage plastic waste.”
“Recycling and collection systems are becoming more efficient, driven by technology and policy.”
The recycling segment led the market in 2024, with the collection segment forecasted to grow rapidly due to improved infrastructure.
Polypropylene dominated among polymer types, while low-density polyethylene is gaining traction.
The residential sector generated the largest revenue share, but commercial sources are expected to grow swiftly.
A report by industry analysts notes that the packaging sector, accounting for 45% of the market in 2024, remains a key focus.
“Packaging is the largest contributor to plastic waste, but it’s also where we see the most innovation,” said Mark Thompson, CEO of EcoCycle Solutions.
“Chemical recycling and partnerships like the one between Re Sustainability and Sharp Ventures in September 2024 are game-changers.”
These initiatives aim to enhance plastic circularity, addressing the global challenge of plastic waste, which is expected to double by 2040.
In October 2024, the ASEAN Declaration on Plastic Circularity was introduced, signaling stronger regional cooperation in Asia to combat plastic pollution.
Japan has been pivotal, with its government pushing for robust plastic waste management strategies across the Pacific.
Additionally, a January 2025 update from industry sources revealed that the European Union’s new regulations, mandating 30% recycled content in plastic bottles by 2030, are accelerating investments in recycling infrastructure across member states.
This aligns with global trends, as only 20% of plastics are currently recycled worldwide.
“The urgency to scale up recycling cannot be overstated,” said Maria Alvarez, director of sustainability at GreenWave Technologies.
“With innovations like AI sorting and chemical recycling, we’re seeing real progress, but global coordination is critical.”
As environmental concerns mount and consumer demand for sustainable solutions grows, the plastic waste management market is set to play a pivotal role in shaping a greener future.
