Prometheus acquires PackagingARTS to enhance packaging solutions

PackagingARTS will maintain its primary label printing services from its California offices

USA – Prometheus Retail Solutions, a leader in custom retail displays and packaging, has acquired the packaging and retail display division of PackagingARTS, a California-based company known for its primary label printing services for the food industry.

According to a statement, this strategic move aims to strengthen Prometheus’s offerings in design, engineering, manufacturing, and fulfillment, particularly for premium wine, spirits, and luxury consumer packaged goods brands.

PackagingARTS, founded by John Swain and Dave Miller, will continue its core label printing operations from its Auburn, California offices.

In a statement, PackagingARTS president and CEO John Swain expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, saying, “We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built over the last 30 years. Passing the torch to Prometheus feels like a natural next step.”

“We’re confident this chapter will bring even more opportunity not only to our clients and team, but to the wine and spirits category as a whole.”

The acquisition integrates PackagingARTS’ design expertise into Prometheus’s portfolio, enabling innovative solutions to enhance retail presence and customer engagement.

Prometheus co-principal Ken Hoffman emphasized the synergy, stating, “Like our namesake, we believe in delivering quality, ingenuity, and craft at every touchpoint.”

“The alignment with PackagingARTS deepens our creative bench and reaffirms our status as a retail powerhouse for creating unforgettable, consumer-ready experiences.”

Prometheus, also based in Auburn, California, specializes in custom retail displays, point-of-purchase materials, and in-store marketing for the same sectors.

The merger is expected to drive advancements in sustainable packaging, aligning with growing industry demand for eco-friendly solutions.

A recent report by the Sustainable Packaging Coalition highlighted that 70% of U.S. consumers prefer brands with environmentally responsible packaging, a trend this acquisition positions Prometheus to address.

In related news, a recent industry update from Packaging Digest (August 2025) notes that sustainable packaging innovations, particularly in recyclable materials for wine and spirits, are gaining traction, with companies investing over US$500 million in eco-friendly solutions in 2024.
