A key selling point, the new D-EA2 formulation dramatically cuts ink costs per milliliter.

JAPAN – Roland DG Corporation has introduced the D-EA2 ink for its DGXPRESS ER series 64-inch eco-solvent inkjet printers.
Priced at half the cost of previous formulations, this new ink delivers vivid print quality and high productivity for graphics used in sustainable packaging.
he ER printers, when loaded with D-EA2 in a CMYK setup, produce sharp colors, neutral grays, smooth transitions, and realistic skin tones through optimized profiles.
According to company details, the ER-642 model now features an upgraded Roland Intelligent Pass Control 2.0 system that minimizes banding and color inconsistencies at fast speeds, while enhancing overall image sharpness and stability.
The included VersaWorks 7 RIP software processes data up to 3.9 times quicker than earlier versions, handling large files efficiently to speed up workflows.
This software incorporates a True Rich Color setting for superior output, along with 16-bit rasterization and advanced dither patterns that create detailed prints with low grain.
A full manufacturer’s warranty comes standard with ER series purchases, and optional maintenance plans provide long-term reliability.
Existing users of D-EA ink can upgrade to D-EA2 via a straightforward firmware update and cartridge swap.
In a statement, Roland DG’s product manager noted, “The D-EA2 ink makes high-quality eco-solvent printing more accessible for businesses focused on cost-effective production.”
He added that these advancements help operators achieve consistent results without sacrificing speed.
Earlier this year, Roland DG also enhanced its VersaSTUDIO BY-20 desktop DTF printer with S-PG2 inks tailored for direct-to-film applications.
These inks replace the original S-PG versions and offer denser white coverage, better vibrancy, and higher opacity with fewer passes, leading to improved durability and fewer clogs.
The faster-drying formula aids powder adhesion and boosts wash resistance in printed outputs. Firmware optimizations pair with the inks to ensure steady performance across production cycles, especially when integrated with powder and shaker systems.
New accessories like Cleaning Liquid and Head Nozzle Refresher simplify printhead maintenance, reducing downtime and extending component life.
VersaWorks 7 now includes an Auto White Layer Generation tool that automates white ink layer creation, cutting prepress time for high-volume jobs.
Users reported that this feature streamlines file preparation, making it easier for beginners and busy shops alike.
In 2023, the company launched cardboard-based ink cartridges that cut plastic usage by 82%, resulting in an annual reduction of 350 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
These recyclable cartridges align with industry shifts toward greener inks and media for packaging prototypes and labels.
