Saica Pack upgrades printing equipment with installation of flatbed printer at its Livingston facility

SCOTLAND – Saica Pack, the corrugated packaging division of the Saica Group, has recently installed a Mimaki JFX200-2513 EX UV LED Flatbed Printer at its packaging manufacturing facility in Livingston, Scotland.

The Mimaki JFX200-2513 EX UV LED flatbed printer has been supplied by CMYUK, making it the third machine provided to Saica Pack.

The new print mode allows for printing at a speed of up to 35 sqm/h. Production speeds of 3.4 sqm or 18 sqm are also available, depending on the quality.

The maximum print width is 2500 x 1300 x 50 mm. Other features include embossed printing, which creates raised textured surfaces by applying multiple layers of ink. An algorithm is used to print optimal gradation patterns on each pass, eliminating banding.

The model has also been installed at the firm’s central design facility in Manchester, while a second printer was installed at its Wigan site.

Matthew Pomorski, the creative marketing manager at Saica Pack, UK and Ireland, stated, “We primarily use the Mimaki JFX200-2513EX for product development.

“We use it to print directly onto the corrugated board to help customers visualize packaging concepts. This can range from a single sample to up to 100 prototypes.” “It’s fantastic in the sense that it allows clients to improve their speed to market.”

Louise Morgan, the technical office manager for the Scotland region, stated that the setup in Livingston was developed so that Saica could provide customers with an authentic experience within their business.

“We’ll be able to run innovation days where customers can spend a whole day with us, developing packaging solutions and leaving with fully printed samples of the concepts we create on the same day,” highlighted Morgan.

“We also have customers who require very small production runs for one-time launches, which fall below our minimum order requirements.” “Having the Mimaki printer gives us the added flexibility to fulfill small one-off runs for these types of requests, enhancing the level of service we can offer our customers.”

Meanwhile, in August of this year, Saica announced an agreement to acquire a minority share of Pacapime, a Belgian corrugated cardboard company.

Pacapime generated revenues of €61 million (US$65.85m) in 2022 and provides direct employment to 109 people.

With its origins dating back to 1919 and now headquartered in Halle, Belgium, the company has established a significant presence in the Benelux countries, France, and Germany. Approximately 80% of its sales are generated from the food sector.
