Saica Pack’s US$12.6M Hartlepool warehouse goes live with 9,000 pallet capacity,  solar power

The 9,000-pallet capacity allows Saica to buffer inventory closer to customers, reducing lead times and improving supply chain reliability for packaging buyers across the region.

UK – Saica Pack has launched its new £10 million (approximately US$12.6 million) warehouse in Hartlepool, County Durham, a facility capable of accommodating up to 9,000 pallets and incorporating solar panels that generate up to 10% of the plant’s total energy requirements.

The project was delivered on time and within budget through collaboration across teams and partners.

The facility includes a dedicated space for the logistics team alongside a designated rest area for drivers, addressing both operational efficiency and driver welfare, a growing concern in logistics where driver shortages and retention remain industry challenges.

Expanding Packaging Capacity in the North East

Saica Pack is part of the Saica Group, a Spanish-based multinational manufacturer of recycled corrugated cardboard and packaging solutions.

The Hartlepool warehouse expands the company’s footprint in the North East of England, a region with significant manufacturing and logistics activity.

The 9,000-pallet capacity allows Saica to buffer inventory closer to customers, reducing lead times and improving supply chain reliability for packaging buyers across the region.

The solar panels generating 10% of the plant’s energy requirements align with Saica Group’s broader sustainability commitments.

The company has publicly committed to reducing its carbon footprint and increasing the use of renewable energy across its European operations.

For packaging customers facing Extended Producer Responsibility fees in the UK, sourcing from facilities with lower operational carbon footprints can contribute to their own Scope 3 emissions reductions.

The Logistics Driver as a Stakeholder

The inclusion of a designated rest area for drivers reflects a practical reality of packaging logistics: drivers spend hours waiting while trailers are loaded.

Comfortable rest facilities improve driver satisfaction, reduce turnover, and increase the likelihood that drivers accept loads to the facility.

In a tight labour market for HGV drivers, such amenities are not niceties, they are competitive advantages.

Riccardo Tonelli, regional director of Saica Pack Northeast, expressed delight that the Hartlepool facility is now fully operational.

When a Warehouse Becomes a Strategic Asset

A warehouse that holds 9,000 pallets is not just storage; it is supply chain insurance.

For packaging buyers in the North East, Saica’s Hartlepool facility means corrugated boxes are stacked closer to production lines, lead times shrink, and the risk of stockouts falls.

The solar panels signal direction, but the pallet capacity delivers the value.
