The acquisition extends Siegwerk beyond printing inks to paper and film production processes.

NETHERLANDS – Siegwerk Druckfarben, a global leader in printing inks and coatings, has acquired Allinova, a Dutch specialty chemicals firm based in Hengelo, Netherlands.
According to a company statement, the acquisition strengthens Siegwerk’s packaging coatings portfolio, expanding its expertise into paper mills and film manufacturing operations, beyond its traditional converter-focused business.
Allinova brings specialized knowledge in formulating water-based dispersions, wax emulsions, and adhesives, enhancing Siegwerk’s ability to deliver innovative, application-specific solutions.
“Allinova’s solutions fit perfectly into our product portfolio and accelerate our mission to provide innovative and sustainable coating solutions for the global packaging market,” said Gilles Le Moigne, head of Siegwerk’s Circular Economy Coatings (CEC) unit.
“This acquisition allows us to combine Allinova’s technical capabilities with our global reach and market expertise.”
In April 2024, the company launched a dedicated global business unit for functional coatings to drive sustainable packaging innovations.
“By acquiring Allinova, we are doubling down on our global expertise in functional coatings, strengthening our position to serve customers as an enabler of circular packaging solutions across all technologies,” stated Nicolas Wiedmann, CEO of Siegwerk.
The CEC unit now serves as a hub for circular solutions, complementing Siegwerk’s conventional offerings.
Allinova, founded in 2005 by Gijs Elfrink, initially focused on flame retardants and wax emulsions before expanding into dispersions and specialty chemicals under co-owner Bob Horsthuis, who joined in 2016.
“We are delighted to partner with Siegwerk, which will integrate our expertise into a significantly larger organization, advancing our products globally,” Elfrink said.
Both Elfrink and Horsthuis will remain with the company post-acquisition to ensure a smooth transition.
The move follows Siegwerk’s 2022 acquisition of La Sorgente, an Italian flexographic ink supplier, reinforcing its position as a comprehensive provider of packaging inks and coatings. Financial details of the Allinova deal remain undisclosed.
In related news, a report by Packaging Europe highlights Siegwerk’s recent introduction of a nitrocellulose-free ink series for polyethene and polypropylene packaging, designed to meet sustainability guidelines from RecyClass and CEFLEX.
