This innovation reduces material waste, offering a more sustainable packaging option.

UK – Siegwerk and Ravenwood Packaging have introduced a new linerless labeling solution tailored for nutrition, pharmaceutical, and hygiene applications.
According to industry sources, the collaboration combines Siegwerk’s BPA-free varnishes with Ravenwood’s advanced linerless systems, eliminating the need for silicone-coated release liners found in traditional pressure-sensitive labels.
The linerless technology increases label yield per roll, cuts storage and transportation costs, and minimizes landfill waste.
“We are excited to collaborate with Ravenwood to bring high-performance, sustainable solutions to the market,” said Guido Lander, vice president of Narrow Web EMEA at Siegwerk.
Dan Coe, director at Ravenwood, noted that the partnership advances circular packaging by integrating Siegwerk’s coating expertise with Ravenwood’s linerless systems.
Siegwerk’s two new BPA-free release varnishes comply with Nestlé Guidance and the Swiss and German Ink Ordinances (GIO).
These regulations ensure the safety of printing inks for food packaging by setting strict migration limits and toxicological standards, facilitating international market access.
The varnishes are approved for Ravenwood’s systems, making them suitable for sensitive applications like nutrition and pharma packaging.
The companies will demonstrate their integrated solution at LabelExpo in Barcelona, Spain, from September 16 -19, 2025.
The event, hosting over 35,000 visitors from 138 countries, will feature live demonstrations of advanced labeling technologies, including linerless systems, at the Fira Gran Via venue.
In a statement, a Ravenwood spokesperson highlighted the environmental benefits of linerless labels, which can reduce material use by approximately one-third compared to traditional labels.
A recent report by Alexander Watson Associates forecasts an 18.4% compound annual growth rate for linerless labels from 2022 to 2025, driven by demand for sustainable packaging in logistics and retail.
Additionally, Siegwerk’s ongoing sustainability efforts include a partnership with Borouge, announced in 2024, to develop monomaterial flexible plastic packaging solutions valued at approximately US$10 million in joint investment.
This collaboration focuses on recyclable packaging for food and non-food applications, complementing the linerless label initiative.
Meanwhile, Ravenwood has expanded its portfolio with machines like the Nobac 40B Bottle Labeller, showcased in June 2025, which supports linerless labeling for bottles, further enhancing efficiency and reducing waste in packaging processes.
