Ghana’s printing industry gets upgrade with Canon wide-format technology

This positions technologically advanced print providers at the centre of this expanding market, enabling them to capture greater share of both advertising expenditure and commercial printing demand.

GHANA – Ghana’s visual communications and printing industry has entered a new phase of growth, driven by expanding retail activity, urban development, and rising demand for high-impact branding and advertising solutions.

Outdoor advertising, a key driver of large-format printing, generates around US$60 million annually, accounting for more than 20 percent of total advertising expenditure.

Accra Print Provider Deploys Colorado M5W

Accra-based Chroma Digital Solutions is among the companies leading this transformation.

The business has enhanced its capabilities with the installation of the Canon Colorado M5W wide-format printer, expanding its ability to deliver premium retail displays, interior décor, and high-durability outdoor signage.

This installation marks one of the earliest deployments of this technology in Africa.

Kwame Owusu-Kwarteng, Operations Manager at Chroma Digital Solutions, explained that clients today expect speed, consistency, and the ability to handle everything from décor to large outdoor graphics on a single platform.

UVgel Technology Withstands Harsh Climate

Owusu-Kwarteng noted that investing in the Canon Colorado M5W enables the company to deliver all this through one system.

Its UVgel technology produces prints that withstand heat and sunlight, a critical requirement for outdoor applications in Ghana’s tropical environment.

Features like white ink, matte-and-gloss finishes, and texture printing open new premium applications previously difficult to produce locally.

The system’s high productivity and efficient ink usage also support cost control in Ghana’s price-sensitive market.

Tushar Vashnavi, Business Unit Director at Canon Central and North Africa, described Ghana as one of West Africa’s most dynamic visual communications markets.

He observed that as retail and advertising sectors expand, print businesses are investing in technologies allowing them to diversify offerings and operate more profitably.

Strategic Support for Sustainable Growth

Canon added that reliable local technical support and strategic business guidance remain essential for successful technology adoption in emerging markets like Ghana.

For Chroma Digital Solutions, upgrading has opened new business opportunities and strengthened operational reliability.

The operations manager emphasised that dependable support gives the company confidence to take on more complex projects.

Future Outlook for Ghana’s Print Sector

As Ghana’s economy continues to diversify, demand for high-quality visual communication is expected to increase across retail, real estate, and corporate sectors.

This positions technologically advanced print providers at the centre of this expanding market, enabling them to capture greater share of both advertising expenditure and commercial printing demand.
