Barcelona Packaging Hub stamps quality seal on locally made machinery

The new seal provides a clear marker of origin for machinery produced within Barcelona’s industrial ecosystem.

SPAIN – Barcelona Packaging Hub has introduced a new quality seal identifying packaging machinery designed and manufactured in Barcelona, as the European packaging machinery market is projected to grow from US$16.27 billion in 2024 to US$23.89 billion by 2033.

The initiative arrives as the European packaging machinery sector expands steadily, driven by automation, sustainability requirements, and stricter regulatory standards across food and pharmaceutical industries.

The new seal provides a clear marker of origin for machinery produced within Barcelona’s industrial ecosystem, which encompasses companies specializing in filling, labelling, end-of-line automation, and other packaging technologies.

A Hub Built on Deep Roots

The founding companies of Barcelona Packaging Hub average more than 25 years of experience in the sector and maintain a global presence across five continents.

More than 90 percent of packaging sector companies across Spain, Portugal, and parts of France are concentrated in the Barcelona area, forming one of Europe’s densest industrial networks.

The Hub brings together leading manufacturers including Effytec Packaging, InvPack, Mengibar, Synchropack,

United Barcode Systems, Volpack, Xolertic, and Posimat, collectively covering food, pharmaceutical, and personal hygiene sectors.

This collaboration enables members to share know-how while offering customers integrated solutions spanning wrapping, coding, palletizing, and filling systems.

What’s Driving the Seal?

Industry data shows origin and compliance have become key decision factors for packaging equipment buyers, particularly in regulated sectors where traceability is paramount.

Key trends fueling demand include increased automation, digitalisation of production lines, and integration of sustainability into machine design.

European legislation now demands higher levels of traceability, recyclability, and safety, requirements being built into machinery from the design stage rather than retrofitted later.

By linking equipment to a recognized industrial cluster, the seal allows buyers to associate machinery with a specific manufacturing base and technical environment.

Global Ambitions, Local Roots

Fidel Mengibar, CEO of Antonio Mengibar S.A. and a founding partner, noted that collaborative work has always been part of their approach, but they needed an umbrella brand to guide their growth as a sector in a geographic area with immense potential like Barcelona.

The Hub’s strategy spans five continents, targeting key markets including France, the United States, Thailand, Mexico, Morocco, and Dubai.

Members have demonstrated their capabilities at international exhibitions, including Pack Expo Las Vegas 2025, showcasing innovations in high-resolution printing, case packing, and palletizing.
