Aptar Beauty’s new custom pump powers L’Occitane’s refillable EMEA hand care range

L’Occitane’s redesigned hand care range signals a strategic brand shift, rooted in its apothecary heritage with timeless glass and plastic bottle designs.

FRANCE – Aptar Beauty has developed a custom dispensing pump for L’Occitane-En-Provence’s redesigned EMEA hand care line, supporting the brand’s transition to refillable 350ml and 500ml bottles with a 500-microlitre dose and a wide actuator for accessibility.

The pump, based on Aptar’s Satine platform with a 24/410 screw-on neck finish, features an enlarged actuator and collar to match L’Occitane’s wider apothecary-inspired bottle silhouette.

The wider pressing area improves accessibility for people with limited hand mobility, while a technical orientation system ensures the pump aligns correctly with the bottle when unlocked for dispensing.

Production takes place in France, with moulding and decoration at Aptar’s Oyonnax facility and final assembly in Le Neubourg.

Refillable Design and Apothecary-Inspired Aesthetics

L’Occitane’s redesigned hand care collection marks a strategic shift in brand positioning, drawing on the brand’s apothecary heritage with timeless bottle designs available in both glass and plastic.

The 350ml and 500ml bottles are now refillable to extend product life cycles and reduce single-use plastic waste.

The glossy black pump finish ensures visual consistency across the range, while the wide actuation surface provides a comfortable, stable pressing experience.

The refill format uses significantly less material compared to purchasing a new bottle, supporting the brand’s sustainability goals.

European Custom Manufacturing Hub and Cross-Regional Impact

Benjamin Girard, Aptar Beauty EMEA Custom Sales Director, stated that the company’s co-creation approach takes advantage of its technical expertise and manufacturing synergies to create unique pumps that support brand differentiation and product inclusivity.

The project was delivered in less than a year, leveraging Aptar’s custom manufacturing hub in Oyonnax, which is dedicated to bespoke pumps with a workforce of 460 employees and annual sales of approximately €60 million (US$66 million).

As part of Aptar’s wider EMEA strategy, which includes a Turnkey Solutions service for beauty brands from design to launch, the collaboration reflects the long-standing partnership between Aptar and L’Occitane, with Aptar providing in-depth technical assessments throughout the development process.

The Oyonnax site, inaugurated in 2023 following a €42 million (US$46.2 million) investment, offers 45% energy savings and a 58% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to previous production sites.
