Acquisition: ProAmpac expands portfolio with UP Paper, Hinojosa buys MS Packaging acquisition

USA/ITALY – ProAmpac, a prominent flexible packaging and material science company based in the USA, has announced the acquisition of UP Paper, a leading North American recycled kraft paper producer headquartered in Manistique, Michigan.

Established in 2016, UP Paper specializes in manufacturing 100% unbleached recycled kraft paper tailored for various packaging applications, serving clients across e-commerce, foodservice, and consumer retail sectors.

Greg Tucker, founder, vice-chair, and CEO of ProAmpac, expressed excitement about integrating UP Paper’s expertise into their business, aiming to broaden their sustainable packaging offerings.

The collaboration is expected to leverage the combined strengths of both companies in fiber and film-based materials science to develop innovative and eco-friendly flexible packaging solutions. Financial details of the transaction remain undisclosed.

UP Paper’s president and CEO, Lars Dannberg, lauded ProAmpac’s exceptional platform and expressed confidence in the partnership’s ability to enhance customer service and product portfolios, benefiting existing and future clients.

ProAmpac, owned by Pritzker Private Capital, management, and other coinvestors, is headquartered in Cincinnati, USA, and caters to a diverse global clientele with its packaging solutions and customer-centric approach.

Hinojosa acquires MS Packaging in Italy

Meanwhile, Hinojosa Packaging Group, a renowned Spanish packaging leader, continues its global expansion strategy with the acquisition of MS Packaging, an Italian packaging company.

With two facilities located in Salerno and Arzano, Italy, MS Packaging brings its expertise in manufacturing and selling paper and corrugated cardboard packaging to Hinojosa’s fold.

MS Packaging, a family-owned enterprise deeply entrenched in the food and beverage market, recorded a turnover of €60 million (US$65.36 million) in 2023.

Under Hinojosa’s ownership, all of MS Packaging’s approximately 200 employees will retain their positions.

This acquisition marks Hinojosa’s entry into the Italian market, one of the largest in the paper and cardboard sector in Europe.

With the addition of MS Packaging, Hinojosa now boasts a workforce of 2900 employees and operates 24 production plants across Spain, Portugal, France, and Italy, solidifying its position as a leader in the packaging sector.

Jamestown Container Companies acquires Midwest Box Company

Elsewhere, Jamestown Container Companies has announced a significant move in its expansion strategy with the acquisition of Midwest Box Company’s packaging business in Cleveland, Ohio.

While specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed, both entities are committed to a smooth transition process under Jamestown Container’s leadership.

During this transition, Jamestown Container plans to integrate the operations of the Midwest Box plant seamlessly into its operations, emphasizing continuity and stability for customers and employees alike.

Key personnel, including the General Manager, account managers, customer service professionals, and essential operations and distribution staff responsible for these accounts, will be retained.

Moreover, the acquisition may necessitate the hiring of additional operations personnel at Jamestown Container’s manufacturing facility in Macedonia, Ohio.

Joseph R. Palmeri, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Jamestown Container, highlighted the positive impact of the acquisition, emphasizing job stability and growth opportunities for the existing workforce.

He also emphasized Jamestown Container’s commitment to enhancing products and services for customers, leveraging synergies with partners such as the Greenpac paper mill and Niagara Sheets LLC, and driving continuous improvement across all manufacturing facilities.

Jamestown Container Companies currently operates six manufacturing facilities and holds ownership stakes in Greenpac LLC and Niagara Sheets LLC, both renowned manufacturing facilities in the Buffalo, NY area.
