Amcor appoints Peter Konieczny as CEO after successful interim leadership

SWITZERLAND – Amcor, a global leader in developing and producing packaging solutions, has appointed interim CEO since April 2024, Peter Konieczny, as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The Chairman, Mr. Graeme Liebelt, said, praised Peter as an exceptional leader in every role he has held during his career at Amcor, including as Interim CEO where he has led the Company through a period of strengthening financial performance and set the business up for further progress.

“The Board and I are confident Peter is the right person to lead Amcor, and we look forward to working with him to build on the strong foundation the Company has established over many years,” he added.

Mr. Konieczny has been a member of the Amcor Global Management Team since 2010 and was appointed Interim Chief Executive Officer in April 2024.

Between September 2020 and April 2024, Mr. Konieczny served as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), where he oversaw global category and product management, Sustainability, R&D and Procurement while maintaining responsibility for the Amcor Flexibles Latin America business.

He also served as President, Amcor Flexibles, Europe, Middle East & Africa and Latin America between 2019 and 2020, President, Amcor Flexibles Europe, Middle East & Africa between 2015 and 2019, and President, Amcor Specialty Cartons between 2010 and 2015.

Prior to Amcor, he had five years of experience in the packaging industry as President of Silgan White Cap, a global organization specializing in metal and plastic closures for the food and beverage industries.

He held business group Managing Director and Chief Finance Officer positions in the heavy industrial equipment industry and has been a management consultant with McKinsey & Company.

Other senior executive appointments

The company has also made other senior executive appointments designed to help accelerate organic growth in the business.

The packaging giant has appointed Fred Stephan, previously President of Amcor Flexibles North America, as its Chief Operating Officer.

Fred will report to the CEO and will be responsible for enhancing the Company’s ability to leverage and accelerate profitable growth opportunities across the global flexible packaging businesses, ensuring coordinated execution between business operations and commercial teams.

Meanwhile, David Clark, previously Amcor’s Vice President of sustainability, has been promoted to the new Chief Sustainability Officer role.

In this role, David will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and be responsible for Amcor’s sustainability strategies and policies, overseeing their implementation across the Company.

Mr. Konieczny commented that by introducing the Chief Operating Officer role, the organization structure is evolving to help facilitate greater collaboration and drive faster growth across the flexible business.

“At the same time, aligned with our purpose, we are elevating sustainability by creating the Chief Sustainability Officer role.

This enables us to increase further our focus on the significant growth opportunity we can continue to unlock by commercializing solutions that drive the industry toward a circular economy for packaging, while reducing carbon footprint,” he explained.
