USA – Aptar Closures has unveiled a groundbreaking e-commerce-capable locking disc top closure, designed to be fully recyclable when paired with PE or PET bottles.
The Future Disc Top closure marks the first in a series of three-disc top dispensing solutions slated for global release this year, catering to beauty, personal care, and home care applications.
Crafted with e-commerce in mind, the Future Disc Top features a locking/unlocking ring that enhances security during transit, minimizing the risk of breakage or leaks.
Notably, it meets Amazon ISTA-6 compliance standards, ensuring resilience against common transport hazards encountered during handling and transportation.
Aptar Closures emphasizes that the closure is crafted from 100% polyethylene (PE), making it fully recyclable when combined with PE or polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles.
Additionally, versions of the closure incorporating post-consumer recyclable (PCR) content are also available.
Furthermore, the Future Disc Top has garnered a Class A rating from the EU’s RecyClass sustainability validation organization and holds certification from Cyclos-HTP, the Institute for Recyclability and Product Responsibility in Europe.
Virginia Murray, Vice President of Generating Demand at Aptar Closures, underscores the company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, especially in response to the rapid growth of e-commerce in the beauty and personal care sectors.
She notes that the Future Disc Top is just one of several strategic additions to Aptar’s expanding e-commerce portfolio, aiming to provide brand partners with superior packaging solutions that meet consumer expectations while advancing sustainability goals.
Earlier this year, Aptar Closures introduced its SimpliCycle line of fully recyclable flow control valves, specifically engineered for applications in condiments and sauces.
Constructed from low-density thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), these valves are meticulously designed to float and segregate from PET during sorting processes, facilitating recyclability within the polypropylene and polyethylene stream.
When combined with compatible Aptar closures, SimpliCycle valves form a completely recyclable component suitable for deployment with PET, PE, or PP containers, whether rigid or flexible.
They are adept at dispensing products with varying viscosities, including fat- and acid-based items like mayonnaise and ketchup.
Notably, SimpliCycle’s dispensing capabilities are purported to match or surpass those of valves made from conventional, less recyclable resins.
The range boasts high-quality flow control, ensuring a consistent flow rate that empowers consumers to regulate the amount of product they dispense.
Moreover, its clean cut-off mechanism prevents drips, leaks, or spills, enhancing user experience and reducing waste. Additionally, SimpliCycle’s inverted storage compatibility ensures that the entirety of a pack’s contents can be emptied before disposal, promoting efficiency and sustainability throughout the product lifecycle.
