BAHRAIN – In a concerted effort to bolster Bahrain’s industrial landscape, the Labour Fund (Tamkeen) has thrown its support behind Alumicor, a global leader in aluminum recycling and manufacturing, in the establishment of its new operational base in Askar, Bahrain.
Aligned with Tamkeen’s mission to fortify the industrial sector, a cornerstone of Bahrain’s economic growth, this collaboration heralds a new era in aluminum manufacturing, a sector pivotal to the kingdom’s export prowess.
Through the introduction of cutting-edge international aluminum dross processing technologies, local manufacturers are presented with opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, reduce waste, and bolster profitability.
Alumicor, recognized as an emerging global innovator, boasts operations across Bahrain, South Africa, Australia, and the Seychelles.
Their state-of-the-art technology can recycle over 48,500 tonnes of aluminum dross and waste annually, representing a significant portion of Bahrain’s aluminum waste output.
Employing eco-friendly recycling methodologies, Alumicor’s techniques conserve up to 90% of the energy typically expended in traditional aluminum remanufacturing processes, thus reducing emissions and facilitating the recycling of larger quantities of aluminum.
Anticipated to generate over 30 new job opportunities for Bahraini professionals, including senior executive and administrative roles, the project aims to cultivate the expertise of Bahraini professionals, positioning them as leaders in specialized industries.
Furthermore, this initiative facilitates the exchange of knowledge between Alumicor’s global operations and the Bahraini workforce, infusing the local industrial sector with technological advancements poised to enhance efficiency and productivity.
Maha Abdulhameed Mofeez, Chief Executive of Tamkeen, emphasized the project’s significance in accelerating Bahraini industrial growth, aligning with the kingdom’s aspirations for carbon neutrality and sustainable practices outlined in the National Action Plan ‘Blueprint Bahrain’.
Ryan Macconaiche, spokesperson for Alumicor, articulated the company’s commitment to establishing a new standard for global eco-conscious recycling.
Macconaiche added, “Our goal is to set a new benchmark for global eco-conscious recycling and to realize a circular economy within the aluminum industry by transforming aluminum dross and waste into valuable resources.
“This will span the entire production process through to the end of the material’s lifecycle, with a zero-waste commitment. To this end, we will work closely with Bahrain’s leading aluminum industry leaders to continually enhance waste recovery methods and innovate new waste management strategies.”
Through collaboration with Bahrain’s aluminum industry leaders, they aim to continually innovate waste management strategies.
Tamkeen’s support underscores its strategic priorities for 2024, focusing on economic impact and private sector development, aimed at fostering employment opportunities, career advancement, and technological innovation within Bahrain’s burgeoning industrial landscape.
