Canon USA launches LX-D400 4-inch full-colour label printer with 13 inch per second output, optional RFID encoding

The LX-D400 launch follows Canon’s introduction of the corrPRESS iB17, an industrial inkjet system for large-scale corrugated packaging printing presented at the FEFCO Technical Seminar 2025 in Rome.

USA – Canon USA has launched the LX-D400, a 4-inch full-colour label printer for on-demand production, delivering output up to 13 inches per second, using dye-based inks on paper, film, synthetic poly, and pre-cut die-cut labels, with an optional UHF-band RFID unit for simultaneous printing and data encoding.

The printer includes a 4.3-inch LCD touchscreen that displays ink levels, media status, and key settings on the main screen.

The model uses an image-processing driver and colour correction tools intended to improve the reproduction of texture and colour in printed labels.

Canon USA serves consumer, B2B, and industrial digital imaging markets across the US, Canada, Latin America, and the Caribbean, backed by approximately US$29.5 billion in global revenue.

Speed and Flexibility for On-Demand Production

The 13 inches per second output, approximately 330 millimetres per second—positions the LX-D400 between desktop label printers (typically 4-6 inches per second) and industrial print engines (20+ inches per second).

For converters and brand owners, this speed enables just-in-time label production for short runs, seasonal promotions, or variable data applications such as sequential serial numbers or personalised QR codes.

The support for multiple media types, paper, film, synthetic poly, and pre-cut die-cut labels, allows the same printer to handle shipping labels, product labels, and compliance labels without changing equipment.

RFID Encoding at the Print Head

The optional UHF-band RFID unit allows printing and data encoding to take place at the same time, embedding the RFID chip’s unique identifier and data structure as the label is printed.

For logistics and retail applications, this integration eliminates a separate encoding step, reducing labour and ensuring that printed information matches encoded data.

Canon stated that this can assist with process handling and inventory tracking in more complex operating environments.

Canon’s Broader Packaging Push

The LX-D400 launch follows Canon’s introduction of the corrPRESS iB17, an industrial inkjet system for large-scale corrugated packaging printing presented at the FEFCO Technical Seminar 2025 in Rome.

The press is designed for short-to-medium-length production runs, producing offset-quality output directly onto corrugated boards up to 1.7 metres wide using water-based inks and primer suitable for indirect food contact.

Canon’s portfolio now spans from on-demand colour labels (LX-D400) to industrial corrugated presses (corrPRESS iB17), covering packaging applications from primary label to shipping box.
