CANPACK announces US$140M investment for second aluminium can plant in Colombia

The state-of-the-art facility will have an installed capacity of approximately 1 billion aluminum can bodies per year.

COLOMBIA – CANPACK Group has announced a major US$140 million investment to build its second aluminium beverage can plant in Colombia, strengthening its long-term commitment to the country’s fast-growing packaging sector.

The new greenfield facility will be located near Barranquilla, in the Caribbean region, and is backed by a long-term supply agreement with a strategic customer.

Scheduled to begin production in the first quarter of 2027, the plant will feature a state-of-the-art line capable of producing 1 billion aluminium can bodies per year.

CANPACK expects the project to create around 160 highly skilled direct jobs, supporting regional economic development and boosting Colombia’s position as a key hub for beverage can manufacturing in Latin America.

“We are dedicated to the Colombian packaging industry and have been strengthening our presence since opening our first plant in Tocancipá in 2019,” said Marius Croitoru, CEO of CANPACK Group.

“This new investment positions us to meet increasing demand not only in Colombia but across neighbouring countries, reaffirming our commitment to innovation, sustainability and long-term growth.”

CANPACK Colombia has operated within the group since 2018 and is recognized for strong customer service, continuous innovation, and extensive CSR initiatives across local communities.

The new Barranquilla plant places CANPACK in a strong position to support this regional momentum while strengthening supply security for its customers across the Americas.

Fabio Hees appointed new Chief Commercial Officer

Alongside the investment announcement, CANPACK has appointed Fabio Hees as its new Chief Commercial Officer, effective September 2, 2025.

Hees joins from Ball Corporation, where he most recently served as Commercial Vice President, Global Accounts, overseeing major international relationships and driving long-term commercial growth.

“I am delighted to welcome Fabio, who brings over 20 years of experience in the global beverage can industry,” Croitoru said.

“His deep commercial expertise, strategic insight, and strong leadership will play a vital role in advancing CANPACK’s commercial strategy and financial performance.”

Hees said he was excited to join at a transformative time for the company. “CANPACK’s commitment to innovation, sustainability and customer excellence resonates deeply with my values. I look forward to working with our teams to unlock new growth opportunities worldwide.”
