Cartonpack expands UK presence with Clifton Packaging acquisition

UK – Italy’s Cartonpack Group has strengthened its position in the flexible packaging market by acquiring Clifton Packaging Group, a UK-based provider of sustainable food packaging solutions.

The move broadens Cartonpack’s portfolio and enhances its footprint in the UK’s growing packaging sector.

Founded in 1981 and headquartered in Leicester, Clifton Packaging serves a diverse range of blue-chip clients, focusing strongly on the protein and snacks markets.

Known for its innovative use of recyclable films and expertise in resealable pouches, Clifton is a leader in sustainable packaging solutions.

Clifton’s CEO, Shane D’Souza, will continue to lead the company’s management team, ensuring continuity as the business integrates into Cartonpack’s operations.

The merger aims to leverage both companies’ strengths to meet the rising demand for high-quality, eco-friendly packaging solutions.

Cartonpack Group plans to showcase its expanded product offerings, including contributions from Clifton Packaging, at the Fruit Logistica Exhibition 2025.

Other group companies such as Ondapack Sud, Cartotecnica, Decapulp, Smilesys, and Fimat will also be featured.

The event is expected to boost customer engagement by highlighting eco-design and sustainable packaging innovations.

In a separate development, Monomoy Capital Partners, a private investment firm specializing in middle-market carve-outs, has acquired Oliver Packaging and Equipment.

Founded in 1890 and headquartered in Walker, Michigan, Oliver is a leading manufacturer of food packaging systems and bakery equipment.

The company also produces compostable and recyclable meal trays and films for senior meals, education, and grocery sectors.

Oliver will continue operations under its current management, led by CEO Mitch Summerfield.

Summerfield expressed optimism about the partnership, “This partnership adds valuable resources that will allow us to achieve our growth initiatives while maintaining a steadfast commitment to our existing customers.”

Monomoy Managing Director Mel Bartoul emphasized Oliver’s growth potential, “Oliver is a clear market leader with a unique customer value proposition and tremendous growth potential.

“We look forward to working with the management team to ensure Oliver continues to accelerate its growth as a standalone platform.”

Monomoy’s extensive experience in the packaging sector, including its 2020 acquisition of Mac Papers + Packaging, positions the firm to support Oliver’s strategic goals.

Monomoy and Oliver plan to pursue organic growth and strategic acquisitions to expand product offerings and enter new markets.
