CCEP sustainability report highlights more use of recycled plastic

UK – Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) has released its 2021 Sustainability Report, showing more use of recycled plastic (rPET) and production of shrink-to-board packs.

The report follows last month’s announcement of Coca-Cola Great Britain (CCGB) in partnership with Coca-Cola Europacific Partners’ introduction of new attached caps to its plastic bottles, making it easier to recycle the entire package and ensure no cap gets left behind.

The bottling giant said it has accelerated the use of recycled plastic (rPET) in 500ml plastic bottles, which it says increased the amount of recycled plastic material in smaller bottles from 50% to 100%.

This will help save more than 29,000 tonnes of ‘new’ non-recycled plastic across its operations in Great Britain (GB) every year.

CCEP also extended its partnership with Loop, the ‘zero-waste’ shopping platform – extending the trial to 10 stores with Tesco in GB.

Production of CCEP’s new shrink-to-board packs also kicked off, following extensive R&D work; plastic shrink wrap will be replaced with cardboard across all multi-packs in Great Britain – part of a target to remove a further 4,000 tonnes of plastic from circulation across the Western Europe region.

CCEP has supported more than 300 young people through the fourth iteration of ReachUp with UK Youth, which aims to empower young people with the confidence and skills to help them prepare for the workplace.

It has also secured status as a certified Disability Confident Leader, which is the highest tier in the UK government’s Disability Confident Programme.

In regard to water, it has replenished 3.7billion litres of water in 2021 as a result of projects in partnership with WWF, The Rivers Trust and Norfolk Rivers Trust.

CCEP has achieved a science-based emissions reduction target set by 47% of its ‘carbon strategic’ suppliers in Europe.

In GB, it has expanded its solar farm in Wakefield as part of a wider €250 million investment programme, delivering 20% of the site’s electricity to reduce carbon emissions.

In addition, CCEP has kicked off the transition from gas to battery-powered forklift trucks across our production facilities in GB.
