Cosmo Specialty Chemicals expands portfolio with advanced heat seal coating

INDIA – Cosmo Specialty Chemicals, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cosmo First Limited, has launched COSEAL-601, a cutting-edge heat seal coating solution engineered to meet evolving demands in high-performance packaging.

The new product marks a strategic expansion of Cosmo’s portfolio, further cementing its role as a comprehensive provider of adhesives, masterbatches, and coating solutions for the flexible packaging industry.

According to the company, COSEAL-601 has been rigorously tested and benchmarked against industry alternatives, delivering exceptional sealing strength, particularly in the 120°C to 160°C temperature range.

This makes it ideal for 2-ply and 3-ply aluminum foil laminate structures, which are widely used in food, pharmaceutical, and FMCG packaging.

The COSEAL-601 heat seal coating stands out for its ready-to-use formulation, which eliminates the need for additional processing steps and significantly enhances production efficiency.

This feature makes it particularly attractive for converters and packaging companies looking to streamline operations and reduce downtime.

Another key advantage of the product is its strong adhesion to laminated aluminum foil, ensuring a reliable and durable seal across various packaging structures.

This is especially critical in industries such as pharmaceuticals and food, where product protection and integrity are non-negotiable.

In addition, the coating exhibits a low coefficient of friction, enabling smooth and uninterrupted processing on high-speed manufacturing lines.

This compatibility with rapid production environments contributes to overall throughput and minimizes the risk of machine stoppages or packaging defects.

COSEAL-601 is also engineered with a block-free, water- and oil-resistant formulation. This enhances its shelf stability and performance under challenging storage and handling conditions, helping maintain the quality of the packaged product and extending the life of packaging materials.

Backed by a year of solid growth – 60% increase in sales (Dec 2024 YTD) and EBITDA margins in the high teens – Cosmo Specialty Chemicals is positioning itself as a leader in next-generation coatings.

This facility was pivotal in accelerating the development of COSEAL-601 and other recent innovations.

Additionally, Cosmo First has invested in film production capacity expansion, particularly in BOPP films, to integrate upstream and provide enhanced value through vertical synergy. This ecosystem enables faster turnaround and in-house trials for new formulations like COSEAL-601.

In 2023, Cosmo Specialty Chemicals also introduced low-VOC, water-based adhesives tailored for flexible packaging and lamination applications, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable innovation.
