James Cropper appoints new Managing Director as it marks 180th anniversary

This reorganization is part of a wider transformation programme aimed at streamlining the company’s portfolio, enhancing operational efficiency

UK – Advanced materials and packaging specialist James Cropper has appointed Paul Barber as the new Managing Director of its paper and packaging division, marking a key leadership move during a year of transformation and celebration.

The appointment coincides with the company’s 180th anniversary and follows the consolidation of James Cropper Speciality Paper, Colourform, and Technical Fibre Products under a unified James Cropper brand.

This strategic reorganization is part of a wider transformation programme aimed at streamlining the company’s portfolio, enhancing operational efficiency, and reinforcing its identity in the global paper and packaging industry.

Barber’s appointment follows David Stirling’s recent onboarding as CEO, reflecting James Cropper’s commitment to driving innovation, growth, and customer-focused solutions.

Barber has over 25 years of industry experience, starting his career as an Area Sales Manager with Sonoco.

His career spans senior roles at Weidenhammer Packaging Group, Smurfit Kappa, DS Smith, Corrboard, and Coveris Group, where he led strategic business development and operational expansion.

His broad expertise includes customer partnership development, operational stability, growth strategy, investment planning, new product innovation, and employee engagement—skills that will be instrumental as James Cropper navigates its next growth phase.

In his new role, Barber said, “During my tenure in the paper and packaging industry, I have long admired James Cropper for its history of quality manufacturing, innovation, and deep-rooted ESG values.

“My focus will be on creating a workplace where employees thrive, while aligning operations and implementing systems that enable us to deliver faster, smarter bespoke solutions for our customers.”
