UK – Packaging products manufacturer Coveris has invested over £3 million (US$3.82 million) in a new Flexo press at its HD print hub in Burnley, UK.

This investment comes in response to the growing demand for advanced flexible print quality.

The new press, equipped with a 100% inspection camera system, delivers an impressive run time of up to 500 meters per minute.

It also features ultra-lean technology, including rapid, automated setup, changeover, drying, and wash-up processes, all of which support Coveris’ “No Waste” vision.

These advancements reduce the company’s energy consumption by 10% and significantly cut material, make-ready, and ink usage.

The installation of this press, expected to be operational next month, will boost Burnley’s HD print capacity by more than 25%.

Coveris anticipates that the new press will standardize advanced quality flexo across its existing portfolio at the site.

Additionally, the Burnley facility is enhancing its specialty conversion capabilities for sustainable barrier and paper films, targeting the bakery, confectionery, and fresh food film markets.

In conjunction with this, Coveris is investing in next-generation plate technology through a partnership with Rivendell, further enhancing its total graphics management offering.

This move follows a recent significant press investment at Coveris’ Louth films facility, demonstrating the company’s ongoing commitment to the future of wide-web flexo print.

Coveris Flexibles has recently received industry recognition, winning three Gold Awards at the FIA UK Awards for various packaging designs.

The company also earned two Bronze Awards and a Highly Commended certification, including a special category for Extended Colour Gamut.

Steven Hinchly, Managing Director of Coveris UK Flexibles, commented, “With our recent FIA UK wins, the timing couldn’t be better to announce our plans to expand our award-winning HD print offer.

“This latest investment allows us to deliver leading quality more efficiently and sustainably than ever before for our customers, while also futureproofing our business for further expansion into new and existing markets through our commitment to best-in-class print.”

In June, Coveris partnered with Interzero to advance plastics recycling, reinforcing both companies’ commitment to eliminating waste in all forms.

Coveris has already made significant strides towards its “No Waste” vision with the launch of ReCover, an innovative waste recycling process that promotes the circular economy for plastics.

Under this new partnership, Interzero will collect and sort materials, which Coveris’ ReCover entities will then process.

This will result in high-quality recycled resins, which will be used in Coveris’ high-performance packaging products, such as Duralite R collation films.
