GERMANY – Coveris, a leading international packaging manufacturer, has announced a strategic partnership with Interzero, a top-tier environmental service provider specializing in waste management, closed-loop solutions, and innovative plastics recycling.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone in advancing plastics recycling and supports both companies’ commitment to eliminating waste in all forms.

Coveris has already made substantial strides towards its No Waste vision with the launch of ReCover, an innovative waste recycling process that promotes the circular economy for plastics.

Under the new partnership, Interzero will collect and sort materials, which Coveris’ ReCover entities will then process.

This process will produce high-quality recycled resins through unmatched mechanical recycling in the market. These resins will be used in Coveris’ high-performance packaging products, such as Duralite R collation films.

“We are excited about this partnership with Interzero as it aligns perfectly with our No Waste vision,” said Christian Kolarik, CEO of Coveris.

“By integrating well-sorted post-consumer waste into our recycling processes, we are taking a significant step towards completely closing the loop.”

This collaboration creates advantages across the entire value chain, helping achieve key sustainability goals such as reducing CO2 footprint, preventing waste, securing raw materials, and adhering to governmental packaging and waste regulations.

“Collaborating with Coveris allows us to leverage our expertise in waste collection and sorting to support the creation of high-quality recycled resins,” said Jan Kroker, CEO of Interzero.

“Together, we can make a substantial impact on reducing waste. The circular economy is a joint project that benefits everyone. We are shaping the circular economy of tomorrow—for a world without waste.”

Recently, Interzero announced it will utilize reusable boxes from German startup Hey Circle to reduce waste and save CO2 emissions in package shipping.

Interzero refurbishes approximately 300,000 used IT and communication devices annually. Since early 2023, it has been using Hey Circle’s reusable shipping boxes to return and ship smartphones, tablets, and hard drives.

The company handles the entire refurbishment process from purchase to reuse and aims to save further resources with Hey Circle’s reusable shipping solution.

Interzero uses Hey Circle L and XL boxes, which feature a patented folding technique and a fully enclosed design with theft protection.

These boxes are designed for 50 cycles, tested for a stacking pressure of 150 kg, and can be loaded with up to 12 and 15 kg, respectively. The CO2 savings have been determined by the independent environmental consultancy Ökopol.
