ALPLA diversifies portfolio with acquisition of Heinlein Plastik-Technik for pharma sector

GERMANY – ALPLA Group, a global leader in plastic packaging, has successfully acquired Heinlein Plastik-Technik, a German packaging specialist.

This strategic acquisition is set to significantly enhance ALPLA’s pharma division, ALPLApharma, and pave the way for a promising future.

The deal, finalized on June 12, 2024, remains confidential regarding its financial terms.

However, it marks a significant step for ALPLA Group, strengthening its market position and broadening its product range.

With this acquisition, ALPLA is now well-equipped to offer comprehensive primary packaging solutions for the pharmaceutical industry, promising substantial future growth.

Walter Knes, Managing Director of ALPLApharma, stated, “With Heinlein Plastik-Technik at our side, our capacities in the area of injection molding will significantly increase.

“We additionally plan to turn the Ansbach site into a technology center for injection molding and automation technology for the entire ALPLApharma group.”

Heinlein Plastik-Technik is renowned for its expertise in developing and manufacturing closure systems, dosing systems, and application aids for the pharma and medical sectors.

The company’s machine fleet includes over 60 injection molding and assembly machines, producing more than a billion plastic components annually through three-shift operations.

Saskia Wellhöfer-Meyer, owner and CEO of Heinlein Plastik-Technik, views the acquisition as the perfect opportunity to further develop the company’s site.

“We look forward to applying our broad expertise in developing and producing precision closure and dosing systems. As a ‘Member of ALPLApharma,’ we will be in an even better position to cater to the market demand for comprehensive, high-quality, and competitively priced system solutions,” he said.

Heinlein has been expanding its site since 2018, now encompassing over 22,000 sqm of development, construction, production, molding, and assembly facilities.

This acquisition follows ALPLA’s recent purchase of iTEC Packaging’s plant in Mansfield, UK. iTEC Packaging specializes in injection molding, thermoforming, extrusion, and compression molding, producing closures primarily for dairy applications and other food and beverage sectors.

Jens Seifried, ALPLA’s UK Managing Director, commented, “With our global know-how, this acquisition will allow us to offer the UK dairy industry sustainable, efficient, and innovative packaging solutions.”

The takeover will enable ALPLA to promote using post-consumer recycled material in the closure sector, aiming to offer complete solutions with high recycling content.

ALPLA plans to build on its work in processing recycled high-density polyethylene (rHDPE), exemplified by the ultra-light Eco-Bottle, which uses around 20% less material across its container sizes than traditional milk vessels.
