USA – Crown Holdings has named John M Rost as executive vice president and chief operating officer for the Asia Pacific region, effective April 1, 2026, relocating the leadership of its fastest-growing packaging market to Tampa, Florida, while he continues to oversee global transit packaging.
Rost, currently serving as president of the Asia Pacific region from Singapore, will report directly to chairman, president, and CEO Timothy J Donahue in his expanded role.
The promotion consolidates oversight of the company’s Asia Pacific operations with its global transit packaging division, reflecting Crown’s strategic focus on integrating regional growth with global operational efficiency.
A Career Spanning Nearly Three Decades
Rost joined Crown Holdings in 1997 and has held a range of roles including senior vice president of technology, sustainability, and regulatory affairs.
During his tenure, he contributed to the formation of Crown’s global regulatory team and led sustainability initiatives, including the launch of the company’s Twentyby30 program, a commitment to achieve 25 percent absolute greenhouse gas emission reduction across Scope 1 and 2 by 2030, with net-zero emissions targeted by 2050.
Donahue congratulated Rost on the well-deserved promotion, noting that during his brief posting in Asia Pacific, he has enhanced partner relationships while re-energizing volume growth in the region.
He expressed confidence that Rost’s leadership abilities, global experience, and deep knowledge of the industry will serve the company well in his new expanded role.

Crown Holdings, headquartered in Tampa, Florida, is a global leader in rigid packaging for consumer marketing businesses, as well as transit and protective packaging solutions.
The Asia Pacific region represents a critical growth market for the company, driven by expanding beverage can consumption, increasing demand for sustainable packaging, and rapid urbanization across emerging economies.
According to industry data, the Asia Pacific metal packaging market is projected to grow at a CAGR of approximately 5.5 percent through 2030, reaching over US$60 billion.
Rost’s relocation to Tampa signals a shift toward closer integration between regional operations and global corporate strategy.
Executive Lineup Changes
The appointment follows other changes in the company’s executive lineup announced in 2025.
Gary Gavin, who led the North American Beverage can business, became president of the Crown Americas division, reporting to Djalma Novaes Jr, who moved into the post of executive vice president and COO from his role as the Americas divisional president.
Gerard Gifford transitioned to executive vice president and chief administrative officer and is expected to remain in that role until retirement.
